Actually, I took my wife with me when I took the other woman, my assistant from work; the other women have been introduced through playing them the CD we bought from him (which, if you don't have already, you should buy!). But you're right... even though my wife is pretty open-minded, I don't think I should press my luck too far.... ;)

I KNEW that RP would be playing Josh soon! I heard him for the first time last spring opening for Jimmie Dale Gilmore in Pawling, NY and have been a big fan since. (And every woman I've taken to hear him, my wife included, thinks he's a major dreamboat. If you have a chance to see him live, don't miss it.

This is a great cover of a great song! Thanks, Bill!

Actually, for me it's even worse: Al Yankovic's "Amish Paradise", then Coolio and finally Stevie... sad, sad, sad. And I'm old enough to own a copy of Songs in the Key of Life on an LP (but don't listen to it much, obviously)!

I have to say that I really like Josh, but when I first heard him perform live I thought to myself that the thing he needs to be most careful about is doing to much post-production on his music. I think this song works better with simpler production values... IMHO....

While I have to say that George was in many ways my favorite Beatle (gotta love the silent type... when they let their wit loose, it's always dead on--George's "she's grotty" scene in "Hard Days' Night" is some of the best stuff in the movie), I can't even come close to saying what my favorite Beatles' song is, let alone who wrote the best stuff. I have a book by a musicologist on the Beatles' songs called "Revolution in the Head"; when he gets very technical in his analysis, it gets deadly: can anyone really give serious analysis to "Why Don't We Do It in the Road?"? But one of the things he said that I thought was dead-on was that on "Sgt. Pepper's", Paul provided the sentiment, John provided the intellect and George provided the soul with "Within You, Without You", or words to that effect (I don't have the book here, so I'm 'quoting' from memory). I think George probably would have hated the book, not being trained in music theory, but I have to think he'd have liked that observation.

And another great song... the White Album may be a mess in some ways, but it has some of the greatest individual achievements... and you won't hear this song or many of the other songs on this album played on a commercial station! Screw the RIAA... and their little dog, too!

This whole album is fantastic... I don't know that I'd put it on the same par with Davis or Coltrane... but it's DAMNED close! My dad has had it since I was a kid and I always enjoyed when he'd put it on the turntable. Now I have it on CD... just not the same thing! :)
