I've had the good fortune of seeing Chris Smither live a couple of times once with the Alvin Brothers in tow no less. On both occasions what came to mind was how so much sound come out from one man. Most musicians beg steal or borrow from their counterparts and pay homage along the way it's part of the creative process, I find him to be a brilliant songwriter and a completely charming performer. Hopefully Bill will find it fitting to add more of his tunes to playlists.
Boy oh boy...these guys (whoever they are) are just copying the band, Arcade Fire.
Are you 12? You might try looking at the date, they were trailblazers, this album came out well before any members of Arcade Fire or even born. And if you ask any of those members they would probably tell you they have nothing but deep respect for these two gentlemen.
All well noted and now will go bin diving. I've loved this song so many years. steuss wrote:
There's probably a hundred reasons why a brilliant songwriter like Steve Earle named his son Townes. Yes, Willie, Merle, Steve, and Emmylou do this one beautifully, but if you want to hear Townes really do it, just him and his guitar when his voice was clear, his fingers agile, and others were just recognizing his genius, check out the fabulous album "Live at the Old Quarter, Houston, Texas" (1973). Also has my favorite version of "If I Needed You", another solid 10.
A better studio version of P&L is from "High, Low and In Between".
Are you seriously still talking about Dylan's voice, that's like complaining or criticizing Neil Young's or Leonard Cohen's voice for that matter while we're on the subject why not criticize Tom Waits too? These are all accomplished great artists and poets their diminished vocals only makes them different and different is always better. It's the fabric of rock and roll.
More people around here need to think like artists rather than analysts... It's a beautiful cover of a powerful song and guess what, that's what artists do, relax and listen and see the beauty in it. But the banter is fun...

Agreed again...last year for me it was Beck's Morning Phase. This year, this (so far...)
Iggy Pop, David Bowie, and Brian Eno (l to r)
Where can I get that graphic please...
