I don't care what anyone else thinks — nostalgia makes this whole album a little sublime for me. It can't be separated from being 17 and IN LOVE with the man I would eventually marry — or from our toddlers dancing around the kitchen and laughing 20 years later while my husband played it for them on his guitar.
I obviously don't like this as well as Bill and Rebecca. I've heard it three times in as many days, and it's really starting to grate at my nerves. I normally don't rate something unless I like it. But I had to rate this one down.
(Yes, I listen to a *lot* of RP. Hurray for Bill and Rebecca!)
Roderigo y Gabriela are AWESOME. I saw them in Denver 2 weeks ago. I had the flu and I was miserable and wanting to go home the whole time the opening band was playing. When Roderigo y Gabriela came out, I completely forgot that I felt crappy. I was screaming and clapping and dancing with everyone else. If covering Stairway -- or Take Five -- is "just showing off," I'm completely happy to listen to them showing off.
Unrelated: Who knew there were so many Led Zeppelin haters out there? :-)
I love the way this song zones out and does that skip thing.....people say to me...is the CD skipping? And I think, "no, it's my brain skipping actually!"
I don't dislike this, but it makes my head hurt when I listen to it with ear buds. It's like leaning close to an endmill that's chattering on stainless steel. Interesting, but not something you want to do for long.
Hurray! I'm not the only one. :-) Super nifty, btw. :-)

Oh my word, how FREAKY. I was going to write the same thing! Well, just goes to show I'm not crazy. But it sure doesn't make me think of the Eurythmics... my bad. Old Joe Clark he had a cow, she was muley born. Took a -something something something -- to fly from horn to horn... round and round i say, i ain't got long to stay!
This is *so* different to the rest of the LP ... I hope no one buys it hoping to listen to more quiet and semi-acoustic songs, because the LP is a industrial/metal noisefest (which, btw, is why I like it ;-)).
Yeah, I was shocked to see this was by the Kidney Thieves. Now I'm going to have to admit to my husband that I don't hate all of their stuff. :-)
This version of Chan Chan is good -- but the Mammals' version of this will blow your socks off. I heard them play it (and translate the lyrics) live in Lyons, CO. I've never listened to it the same way since.
I think this song is supposed to be funny, but it really freaks me out. Several years ago, I spent 5 months working for a mental health agency in West Virginia. I encountered some very disturbed children, who went on to become disturbed adults. This song reminds me too strongly of what a tragedy some people's lives are to be entertaining in any way.
I have to second you. The Indigo Girls are good, but they're not this good. Not on this song.
The Indigo Girls are good, but if Mark Knofler were dead, the Indigo Girls version of Romeo and Juliette would make him spin around in his grave. They definitely shouldn't have messed with this song, because they missed the light-hearted aspect of it completely.
Welcome to the Monkey House is a great album. This song isn't necessarily a standout, but it's nice on it's own and contributes well to the movement of the whole album.
I didn't know about the Dandy Warhols before I started listening to RP. Thanks Bill and Rebecca!
But: How are the '90s 20 years ago?
(Yes, I listen to a *lot* of RP. Hurray for Bill and Rebecca!)
