Steady, as She Goes - The Raconteurs

Trivia question: How many times do they actually sing the phrase "Steady as she goes" in this song?
I counted 29 :-)
I still like it - I'm a big fan of Brendan Benson and this is the most 'Bensonesque' of the Raconteurs stuff to date.
Maybe, This Time - OK Go

Not the best song on the album but good to hear OK Go on RP. The first album is better IMHO
Summersong - The Decemberists

I quite like this. Sounds a bit like the Levellers in a mellow moment.
Might have to buy the album. Thanks RP.
April Skies - The Jesus and Mary Chain

They're from Scotland,
Don't know what happened to them.
The core of the band were brothers Jim and William Reid . Jim is still active in music and William has been a bit quiet for a while.
Drummer Bobbie Gillespie became the lead singer of Primal Scream who are on a bit of a comeback at the moment.
'April Skies' takes me back to my moody teenage years. Rock on........
Hello My Treacherous Friends - OK Go

Great to see OK GO on RP. I must say there are better tracks than this on the first album but its great they are getting some exposure at last.
Caribbean Blue - Enya
Posted 19 years ago by rafterman:
Enya is one of those artists you either love or hate. I'm afraid I'm in the latter category. Look at that rating distribution! It's just not to my taste.
Big Country - Béla Fleck

Hey - what's with the Jaco Pastorious bass riff on this?
Interesting meld of jazz, country and folk. Sounds like the theme from that Bill Forsyth film? Is that what it is?
Hmm...
A Million Ways - OK Go

Saw Ok Go live last year supporting Brendan Benson - they blew him away. I submitted a track from their first album 'Ok go' last year but got a 'sorry' - maybe time to resubmit now that RP has 'seen the light'....
Fading Away - The Church

Are this band from Oz?
I've never heard of them but to my ears its a bit of INXS crossed with The Mission. Not unpleasant but not great.
White Shadows - Coldplay
Posted 19 years ago by rafterman:
U2 clones with the 'passion' gene removed.
Just my humble opinion.
Mornings Eleven - The Magic Numbers
Posted 19 years ago by rafterman:
I actually quite like this. Unfortunately, the album is a bit hit and miss.
Much better is the remarkably similar sounding band named 'Aberfeldy' - I'll upload a couple of tracks to LRC if not already there.
Dignity - Solas

As someone who was brought up on celtic music (but never really a fan), I find this track lacks something - I cant quite put my finger on what it is, though. Maybe just too over produced and not enough in the performance?
My Back Pages - The Byrds

The feeling of this track doesn't apply to me (being just big three-oh), but I still think it's a good song. Maybe when I reach my 40s I'll like this even more.
I think the sentiment becomes more apparent the older you get (I'm in my 30s).
I've never liked Dylan's performances but I'm a big fan of the Byrds doing Dylan songs and this one is one of the best.
Whatever Happened to Soy Bomb - EELS

I always really liked this song, but now I've read through the posts and read the Soy Bomb story, I love this song!
Thank you, O diligent researchers and bringers of knowledge to the ignorant masses of hum-along music fans!
Having read all the posts, it's just taken on another dimension. I've been a fan of the post-modern irony of Eels since I heard Novocaine for the Soul back in the mid 90s. This is the first track I've heard from the latest offering and I might just have to get on Amazon now (linking from RP of course)......
Heartache For Everyone - Indigo Girls

I agree!
I've never heard of Indigo Girls but I thought this was ok - it perked me up after Led Zep's Going to California.
What is other Indigo Girls stuff like? Are they big in the States?
What Are You Afraid Of? - West Indian Girl

or some combination of early Jethro Tull meets Jane's Addiction. I like it, nonetheless. Does the rest of the album sound anything like this?
I immediately thought of Jane's Addiction when i heard this. The vocals are very Perry Farrell and it has a sort of 'trippy' feel like some tracks on early Jane's Addiction.
Quite cool.
All the Dark Horses - Trashcan Sinatras

Maybe but I'd like to hear more than the two trax RP has in the library. The Sinatras have been around for the better part of a decade. Diggin' it now though.
The Trashcans have been around a lot longer than a decade. I remember they were on the gig circuit when I played in a band in Scotland - that was in the late 80s.
Freetime - Trashcan Sinatras

Good to see the Trashcans making RP. They come from the same town as me. Some of the best bands ARE Scottish, you know......

The part in the lyrics where he says, "Jealousy..." sounds so much like Blondie's "Dreaming"
anyone else??
Yep. Definite shades of Blondie there. :-$

First Jellyfish album (Bellybutton) is one of my all-time faves. I was honoured to see them live twice. Experiences I'd never forget if I could remember being there in the first place (ahem!)
Such a shame that tracks like 'Man I used to be' and 'I wanna stay home' can't make it on to RP.
And then there's Jason Falkner and Brendan Benson.........
