Birdland might sound a little dated now, but these cats were one of the most influential fusion jazz ensembles to come out of this era. This is a brilliant album by any standard. Nice choice Bill. You should put a fresh ear to Pat Metheny as well.
1970- my first year of High School and this album came out. Played the grooves right off of it. We have all grown older and some of us a little wiser, but this album still speaks to the heart of the young seeker- on the road to find out. Thanks Bill!
Bill- give up on these cats already! This cut sounds like a bad cover band doing Dick Dale. And I heard way too many of those growing up in 60's Southern California!
For many years I thought this was Jeff Lynne and ELO working under another name. This is probably why so many listeners think this sounds like The Traveling Wilburys whom Jeff Lynne was largely responsible for producing. At any rate, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and Lynne himself is very derivative. So turn about is fair play.
Write about what you know, obviously Greg knows about writing songs. This CD will grow on you with a few listenings. There are my tracks that "move" quite nicely. My current fav is "Farewell" Check it out.
Ahh... bringing up some great memories. 1967, twelve years old, Junior High School, discovering life, girls, and great music! The first great concept album in my life. Thanks RP for brightening my morning.
Bill, o another great find by RP. You can go as deep into this album as you want and you wont find a clinker in the bunch. Thanks for turning us on to this great artist!
You wont regret it. I picked this album up several months ago and it is all great stuff. Some of the music was used in The Reader and it was a perfect fit. driversseat06 wrote:
Fabulous! I was having a bad bad morning and this came on and made me take a break. Love it! I wrote down the title and I'm buying it. I normally don't listen to this type of music but I will now. Perfect selection!!!
When I first heard this song back in 87, I thought that Buffalo Springfield had reunited. Perhaps this is why Lowell George wasn't fond of it. It is a definite departure from the usual "Feet" sound. Steven Stills could have written it.
If you like these guys, you should dip your toes into some Ramsey Lewis Trio, or Les McCann & Eddie Harris. Now that's the real thing compared to what?
A long-time RP favorite. You could play this every day at 2:26pm and that would be just fine with me. I making a contribution to Radio Paradise right now!
You should play a few of their pieces as well.
