Gypsy Punk? Okay, now they're just making stuff up, right? That said, I liked the first couple of minutes. Definitely high energy. Something that might be fun live (in moderation).
Does that dude have an 8-pack? Impressive.
One of the best comments I've ever read on RP. Nailed it.
First cassette I bought (along with Glenn Miller's Pure Gold) in 1986. My school class size began to shrink as families lost their farms and the kids had to move with their parents to area cities. It happened, folks. Glad I got to see JCM at FarmAid a thousand years ago, and in concert at Rosemont, IL. Happy to say our family farm is still in operation, still family owned, and the future looks bright. Best song on the album is one you've probably never heard, Between a Laugh and a Tear. Forget the 80's mix and listen to the words.
Saw Freedy a couple weeks ago at Iota in Arlington, VA. I went to the show because of the songs I hear on RP. It was a nice little show, although I wish he had a band with him. Told some funny, yet oddly intense, little stories. Only took him 10 years to make his new album. Said he averaged a song a year.
There are several nice songs on this album. I think it's good. Give a few more tunes a try before sinking this guy. New album with a few new interesting songs as well.
Remember riding The City of New Orleans line from Chicago to Effingham during the college days. Something romantic about it. It was like the Orient Express in winter. Such an odd cast of characters. I would always eat a Gold Coast hot dog and fries before boarding at Union Station. You could always count on the train to arrive between 30 minutes and four hours late. Ah, the rails.
Really amazing lyrics to this one. It takes a perfect blend of strange overtones to make a catchy tune for Byrne to sing, but, by golly, they get it right on this one. Keep harmonizing!
Incredible song. "I'm on Fire" and "Downbound Train" are two of his most underrated. Gutty songs that tell stories from a point-of-view few artist's could comprehend.
Did he say the theme song would not be written by Jim Webb? As in senator Jim Webb from Virginia?
(I must say I would not mind if he did write the theme song. I really like JW.)
I think he's referring to Oklahoma native/Nashville songwriter Jimmy Webb. He wrote a number of country hits and has recently teamed with Vince Gill to write the Oklahoma State Bicenntenial song, "Oklahoma Rising." I wouldn't expect to hear it on RP anytime soon.
Long live the revolution.
