Nobody covers Patty Griffin like the Dixie Chicks

This song always makes me smile when I hear it and I don't have a clue what he's singing about, probably Australia.

I think the lyrics to Shins songs are great, the imagery of 'keep your head in a hollow log' makes me smile every time I hear it.

I've never been a big Queen fan, but this one's not bad.

I saw these guys open for Patty Griffin and the audience gave them a standing ovation when their set ended, they were pretty good

Had to bump my initial 7 to 8, love the way this song builds

I'm not a huge fan of Talking Heads, but I sure like this song....a lot.

I as well like Eliza's version, she slows down the tempo and there's more emphasis on the lyrics, to these old ears.

...it's not Loreena McKennitt singing on that song, it's Mary Jane Lamond. Still an interesting song. KSTrillian wrote:
The song "Devil in the Kitchen" and "What an Idiot he is" were both played on Seattle's Grunge/Alternative station back in the day when this album was released. I've been a fan of his since that odd-placed exposure. Thanks RP to sharing it with a few more! Ashley MacIsaac is amazing. I LOVE Loreena McKennitt, but never knew this was her on here. Pretty cool as it's different for her.

Let me second that, go see these guys live, poetdancer wrote:
Darlingside is but one band that I've seen live as a direct result of RP. Go see them live if you have a chance - they put on great shows.

Everything about this song works just fine for me, let's give it an 8.

As it has been said, they are the absolute best bar band that you've never heard of, I rest my case.

I  believe the male vocal is by Damien Jurado. Used to be one of my indie folk faves back in the day. Not sure if he ever gets played on RP alas.

He was really big in Montreal in the early 70's, I think he moved there from the South to avoid the draft. I got to see him play live a couple of times and I haven't heard much from him since then, too bad.

Randy Newman much like Lyle Lovett is one of the great American storytellers, although not so much now that he's doing all that Disney music.
