I listen to RP to avoid this kind of radio crap. Too bad this is in rotation.
PRO TIP: Avoid the radio instead! Then you can evaluate music on its own merits instead of holding this station up to some weird "I don't like it because I heard it elsewhere" hipster standard.
I'm not sure it's an objectively great song, but I'm going to permanently love it.
When I was in my second year of graduate school, we had a set of enormous, daunting, terrifying exams. I was scared out of my mind when they came up, and when I took them, I was pretty sure I had failed.
Long story short, it turned out that I was wrong, and I passed. When I found that out, the first thing I did was get into my car and play this song (I'm not sure why). Because of this, it's inextricably linked in my mind with one of the very happiest moments of my life, and I can't help but feel an overwhelming sense of joy / relief when I hear it years later.
I was getting some work done with RP in the background when this song came in. Something about the first few chords made me think about my young children and how quickly they're growing. I started tearing up. I have no idea why this moved me as much as it did, but I'm impressed at the raw emotional power this song held for me.
When I hear this song, read the words, and recall the band's story, I marvel at what kind of spirit it takes to write something like this, and I'm moved to tears.
Lotta folks on here saying how they hate this, and a lotta folks responding that it's expected (and maybe even healthy) to hate something on an eclectic station once in a while; if it's not pushing your boundaries, it's not doing its job.
That response is 100% correct, and I have to remind myself of it from time to time with other songs. But not this one! I just wanted to chime in for those who actually like this song, because I do. I recognize that the vocals aren't great, but they still fundamentally work for me here. I'm glad this song is in the rotation, and I'm generally grateful for even the songs I don't like much.
This is a long-winded way of saying: thanks for making a good station, Bill!

Totally agree. Overplayed on the radio and now it finds us here.
PRO TIP: Stop listening to the radio. That way, you can evaluate a song on its merits instead of doing what you're doing.
If I had to hazard a guess, it'd be because they're a group, and they've released musical albums.

Counterpoint: It's a good song, and it belongs in the mix. The fact that you hear it often elsewhere doesn't diminish the quality of the song.

Well, for starters, Take Five is mostly in 5/4 measure, and this song is in 7/4. Also, they're completely different songs.
And by the way, it's right.
