Molly Lewis (b. c1990) is an Australian born, Los Angeles-based, musician known for her whistling. Lewis was born in the small town of Mullumbimby in New South Wales, Australia. When she was a child she moved with her parents to Los Angeles to pursue careers in the movie industry. When she was 13, her family moved back to Australia, where she became obsessed with the 2005 documentary Pucker Up, which followed six competitors in the annual International Whistler’s Competition in North Carolina. Lewis would go on to compete in the competition herself in 2012.
Her debut EP, Forgotten Edge, was released in 2021, drawing praise from both the New York Times and NPR, as well as landing her a spot on CBS Sunday Morning. Lewis released her second EP, Mirage, in 2022. For the 2023 Barbie movie, she collaborated with Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, with Lewis whistling a rendition of Billie Eilish’s song “What was I Made For?”.
