First Aid Kit

First Aid Kit is a Swedish folk duo consisting of the sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg, born in 1990 and 1993 respectively. When performing live, they are accompanied by a drummer, a guitarist and a keyboard player. First Aid Kit started to become internationally known in 2008 with their YouTube uploaded cover of the Fleet Foxes' song "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song". In 2012 Rolling Stone magazine had their song "Emmylou" as 10th on their "Single of the Year" list. First Aid Kit has released five albums, four EPs and several singles. In 2015, they were nominated for a Brit Award as one of the five best international groups. They were nominated again in 2019 and 2023.

Bill, I am thinking that you and Rebecca have attended the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival at least once, probably more. The last three performers you played, Patti Smith, Carolina Chocolate Drops, and now First Aid Kit, all appeared at Hardly Strictly in recent years. And many other performers that you have played have appeared there as well. I moved to Mexico over three years ago, the weekend after attending all three days of the 2015 festival. I have also made special trips to attend the 2017 and 2018 festivals, making it nine of the last 10 years that I have gone to all three days of that great festival. In my humble opinion one of the best festivals in the world, and most likely the best free three day festival. And now Wailin' Jennys, who also appeared there recently, maybe in 2018.

This was pretty much just background music to me until I decided to look up the group and find out more about them.  Wow...I took a little more time to listen and really appreciate the incredible talent of these two sisters.  And apparently I am not the only one either.

How's your Swedish, English-only speakers? Spend a little time in a foreign country and weep at your own limitations. I am so envious of multi-lingual speakers.

As for this song, I recall hearing it for the first time and I couldn't stop playing it. Some songs are like that. Thanks for playing it.

The band name is well chosen. Every time I had to endure these very uncomfortable medical treatments in the hospital I did put on my headset and played this song and these girls dragged me through it. True story.
