Pinback is an American indie rock band from San Diego, California. The band was formed in 1998 by singers, songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Armistead Burwell Smith IV and Rob Crow, who have been its two constant members. They have released five studio albums and several other releases.

I had the experience of seeing them live in Boulder this Fall, and THEY ROCKED THE HOUSE! They do conjure up a lot of the staccato and quirks of Fripp and Belew, to be sure, but their sound is truly unique, as is the way they play their instruments, especially the bass...

This band got me through my uneventful suburban teendom. Makes me feel like I'm in that humid 2nd floor bedroom next to my parents. Yeesh.

I still love Pinback though.

Absolutely.  Just toggled over to this tab to see what SP album this was on...and was completely surprised to see it wasn't the Pickups at all.  

Pretty nice groove though.  I like it.

Okay, wow. I wasn't paying much attention, but I liked it, so I popped in here. The lyrics got to me - went to songmeanings.com to get some insight. Just, wow. Lots of good interpretations, but the theme is the same: heartbreakingly sad.

Yes! I saw them in Vancouver. The bass player is indeed unique in his style. When Rob Crow started doing "The Worm" on stage, it was a sight to behold.
