It's a beautiful rendition of Happiness as sung/narrated by a native Tibetian. East Asian vocals are entirely different than that of the western world unless of course they've been trained otherwise.  I don't think she warrants negative comments just because she's not catering to "westernized" ears.  Each to their own as always, but try and have a little respect for all artists and their genres.  The strangling cat comment was highly unnecessary but I doubt very much that the thought came from a professional.

It can be fairly common in some parts of the world for people to not know when they were born. They don't place any cultural significance on it. I  had a tibetan girlfriend for a bit, she had no idea what her birthday was or even which year. A lot of refugees just make up some arbitrary date when they register in India. 

Love this! New member of the community here and so far I'm digging the wide variety of musical exposition. 

As a multi-cultural person I've always enjoyed many different kinds of music. I've enjoyed other Tibetan music in the past but had not previously heard Yungchen's music. 

This discovery on RP led me to check out her other work on Spotify and I am LOVIN it.

This is not Rock and Roll, but I like it.

I KNEW when I heard this song played that there would be a multitude of negative opinions voiced. What IS interesting to me is how I read in many comments about a U2 or Beatles or Stones song how RP needs to play the different, not the normal "classic rock" tunes. Then, when you hear something like Yungchen Lhamo, you read complaints. Well, I say, MAKE UP YOUR MIND. If you want to be challenged, be challenged. Listen to something non western once in a while... learn how to hear the music between the notes. You don't have to like it, obviously, but until you can learn to HEAR it, don't judge it. RP SHOULD challenge listeners with music like this... please keep it up.

Love this music.  Too bad so many Tibetans had to leave their country after the Chinese invasion.

Saw this lady just once on the stage and she had a rapt audience. I was not in tune with the seance that was happening, but saw  that it was profound  for  them.
