To find yourself alone again
Wonderin' where you have been
Your lonely voice
Calls across the star lit coast
Reaching out to be seen
She cries your name
Three times again
She cries your name
How long can this love remain?
Cut beneath the surface screen
Of what we say and what we seem
Is there truth to be seen?
She keeps cryin' out your name
But her scream sounds the same
How fickle fate can be
She cries your name
Three times again
She cries your name
How long can this love remain?
Birds which scream for territory
Can learn to sing euphorically
Given time that is real
And there's a wasteland in your soul
The burned out trees will leave you cold
Living out an ideal
She cries your name
Three times again
She cries your name
How long can this love remain?
She cries your name
Three times again
She cries your name
How long can this love remain?
She cries your name
Twelve times again
She cries your name
How long can this love remain?

Elizabeth Caroline Orton (born 14 December 1970) is an English musician, known for her "folktronica" sound, which mixes elements of folk and electronica. She was initially recognised for her collaborations with William Orbit, Andrew Weatherall, Red Snapper and the Chemical Brothers in the mid-1990s. Her UK/US first solo album, Trailer Park, received much critical acclaim in 1996. Orton developed a devoted audience with the release of the BRIT Award-winning album Central Reservation (1999) and the 2002 UK top 10 album, Daybreaker. Her 2006 album, Comfort of Strangers, was followed by a break during which Orton gave birth to her daughter and collaborated with the British guitarist Bert Jansch. Orton returned with Sugaring Season in 2012, which moved towards a purer acoustic sound, followed by a return to electronic music with Kidsticks, released in 2016.
Orton's music has been featured in the movies How to Deal and Vanilla Sky, and also in the TV series Felicity, Charmed, Dawson's Creek, Roswell, Grey's Anatomy and Manifest, providing her with exposure to a more mainstream American audience.
Bill just mentioned after playing it that the album (released in 1996) is almost as old now as Beth was when she recorded it. Can't believe it's been that long.
I went to see her in a small club in Boston in November 1998, performing with Ron Sexton. Great show.
Never was there a better decade than the 90s.
Beth Orton has done quite a bit of electronica stuff - in fact, she's often labeled "folktronica". Anyhow, there aren't a whole lot of fans of those genres here - at least not compared to the other genres. A "standby for one song" would generally result in a classic rock tune here.
She added her voice to a key electronica track from William Orbit. Casting age discrepancies and created names aside, I always like to think that they first met in grade school when the class was arranged by alphabetical order.

Perhaps that's why Bill placed it after Ray (breathy intake) La(breathy intake) Montagne.
I'm just here for the bridge.
Still, so sad.
Yes, I can agree that! a complete better contrast to the local/national radio stations here.
Greetings from Germany too ;-)
Ich weiss es nicht warum Deutschlander sprech English so gut wann unser American leute kann nicht...
That's the best I can do 44 years after studying German in high school.
Und ja sicher, Radio Paradise ist das bestes!

I remember first hearing this. On an ad break watching UKs "The Big Breakfast" with Chris Evans and Gabby Roslyn. It blew my socks off. I went out and bought the album, went to Norwich to see her(with Travis) and with my tent! Then got super obsessed and organised her gig at Hull University and interviewed her for the magazine. All from one advert break. Amazing artist.
What a great share and thank you.
"...Van Morrison like a drunk telling war stories in a bar." Hahah! Accurate, but I guess that's why I love him!
