Martha Wainwright

Martha Wainwright (born May 8, 1976) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and musician. She has released seven critically-acclaimed studio albums.

Wainwright is the daughter of musicians Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright III and the younger sister of singer–composer Rufus Wainwright.

Martha Wainwright's live performances have received critical praise, with The Telegraph writing that her concerts "leave in no doubt that she is a singular star." Apart from music, she has appeared in several film projects, including Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator and the HBO miniseries Olive Kitteridge alongside Frances McDormand. Wainwright owns and operates Ursa, a café, concert-hall, bar, and recording space in Montreal.

Hey, all you dudes who love to repeatedly lump women into the minimal groups of voice types so it is easier to dump on and publicly disregard them: why don't you do that with the male voices?

It is done, rarely. Look at nearly any female artist and it's rampant.

Riiiight...'cause Joni's voice in "Big Yellow Taxi" is oh so 'smoky.' I find it odd that this "little girl" voice complaint repeatedly comes from women...are you THAT afraid a few women singing in a whispy (read: sexy) voice are going to derail your equality? I'd stop worrying. What seems to be forgotten here is the factor of age. Joni was 27 when she recorded "Big Yellow Taxi", Martha's 29. The archetype of the "little girl" voice, Billie Holliday, was in her 20's when her greatest hits came. I think Martha stands on her own just fine, thank you very much. No doubt her voice will change with time, and I look forward to it. For now, I'll enjoy what we have. Quite likeable, in my opinion.
