Drink up, baby
Stay up all night
Things you could do
You won't but you might
The potential you'll be
You'll never see
Promises you'll only make
Drink up with me now
And forget all about
Pressure of days
Do what I say
And I'll make you okay
And drive them away
Images stuck in your head
People you've been before
That you don't want around anymore
That push and shove and won't bend to your will
I'll keep them still
Drink up, baby
Look at the stars.
And I'll kiss you again
Between the bars
Where i'm seeing you there
With your hands in the air
Waiting to finally be caught
Drink up one more time
And I'll make you mine
And keep you apart
Deep in my heart
Separate from the rest
Where I like you the best
Keep the things you forgot
The people you've been before
That you don't want around anymore
That push and shove and won't bend to your will
I'll keep them still
Stay up all night
Things you could do
You won't but you might
The potential you'll be
You'll never see
Promises you'll only make
Drink up with me now
And forget all about
Pressure of days
Do what I say
And I'll make you okay
And drive them away
Images stuck in your head
People you've been before
That you don't want around anymore
That push and shove and won't bend to your will
I'll keep them still
Drink up, baby
Look at the stars.
And I'll kiss you again
Between the bars
Where i'm seeing you there
With your hands in the air
Waiting to finally be caught
Drink up one more time
And I'll make you mine
And keep you apart
Deep in my heart
Separate from the rest
Where I like you the best
Keep the things you forgot
The people you've been before
That you don't want around anymore
That push and shove and won't bend to your will
I'll keep them still
Madeleine Peyroux

Madeleine Peyroux (born April 19, 1974) is an American jazz singer and songwriter who began her career as a teenager on the streets of Paris. She sang vintage jazz and blues songs before finding mainstream success in 2004 when her album Careless Love sold half a million copies.
cool
Would tony620d please explain the term "sappy pos"? I have never seen or heard "pos." Is it an acronym?
Point of Sale. He doesn't like her cash register.
Reminds me so much of Billie Holliday. Awesome.
Yes. Strange fruit
For me, totally the wrong vibe with this cover. The original from Elliott Smith was a study in agonised sympathy and regret, with the music and vocals matching the lyrics perfectly. I acknowledge that artists need to put their own stamp on a cover, but this for me missed the mark by some distance.
This is an example of a true and appropriate comment here on RP! I applaud tomperth1! I also wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment. It's a nice cover and I do, in fact, like Madeleine Peyroux...however...just not as enjoyable as the original. Perhaps if I never heard the original...I'd enjoy this more.
Total agreement. Why mess with perfection?
Gosh, I guess she should've checked with you guys first.
(assumes Comic-Book Store Guy voice) "Sir: Jerry identified the phenomena of The Two-Face. But La Peyroux is not that. She is extremely attractive, and very sexy, without being particularly beautiful, a phenomena admittedly more common in Europe than in North America. You stand corrected."
Are you the creator of Hi and Lois? Because you are making me laugh. Now stop banging your head on the display case please, it contains a very rare Mary Worth in which she has advised a friend to commit suicide. Thank you.
