I guess it depends on what you mean by "enjoyable".  There are better recordings of these guys doing this tune, though.

I'm not sure that 'enjoy' is the word I would use either. Interesting, certainly, perhaps even 'challenging'...I'll have to give it another listen or two sometime.

I keep trying to appreciate this stuff, but it just doesn't do it for me. For the genre, this is quite good, and the virtuosity of the player is evident, I just don't care for the end result.

I'd be tempted to seek out a different version of this Monk standard and upload it. The mix does leave a lot to be desired. This is a live date from 1962 or so, and jazz doesn't do nearly as well in a large venue (Carnegie Hall) as it does on smaller stages (Village Vaguard). btw, the reverse is true of classical.

My former roommate spent nearly a year trying to cultivate my taste for jazz... and he failed. I just don't like it. Even though I know these guys are some of the greats... 2.
