Watching the coast
Suddenly I know
What I want the most
And I want to tell you
Still I hold back
I need some time
Get my life on track
I know that look on your face
But there's somethin' lucky about this place
And there's somethin' good comin'
For you and me
Somethin' good comin'
There has to be
And I'm thinking 'bout mama
And about the kids
And the way we lived
And the things we did
How she never had a chance
Never caught a break
And how we pay for our big mistakes
I know so well the look on your face
And there's somethin' lucky about this place
There's somethin' good comin'
Just over the hill
Somethin' good comin'
I know it will
And I'm in for the long run
Wherever it goes
Ridin' the river
Wherever it goes
And I'm an honest man
Work's all I know
You take that away
Don't know where to go
And I know that look that's on your face
There's somethin' lucky about this place
There's somethin' good comin'
For you and me
Somethin' good comin'
There has to be

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were an American rock band from Gainesville, Florida. Formed in 1976, the band originally comprised lead singer and rhythm guitarist Tom Petty, lead guitarist Mike Campbell, keyboardist Benmont Tench, drummer Stan Lynch and bassist Ron Blair. In 1982, Blair, weary of the touring lifestyle, departed the band. His replacement, Howie Epstein, stayed with the band for the next two decades. In 1991, Scott Thurston joined the band as a multi-instrumentalist—mostly on rhythm guitar and second keyboard. In 1994, Steve Ferrone replaced Lynch on drums. Blair returned to the Heartbreakers in 2002, the year before Epstein's death. The band had a long string of hit singles including "Breakdown", "American Girl", "Refugee", "The Waiting", "Learning to Fly", and "Mary Jane's Last Dance", among many others, that stretched over several decades of work.
Although Petty was insistent that the band be referred to as rock and roll, the Heartbreakers' music was characterized as both southern rock and heartland rock, cited alongside artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, and John Mellencamp as progenitors of that genre that arose in the late 1970s and 1980s. While the heartland rock movement waned in the 1990s, the band remained active and popular, touring regularly until Petty's death in 2017, after which the Heartbreakers disbanded. Their final studio album, Hypnotic Eye, was released in 2014.
The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002, their first year of eligibility. Although most of their material was produced and performed under the name "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers", Petty released three solo albums, the most successful of which was Full Moon Fever (1989). In these releases, some members of the band contributed as collaborators, producing and performing as studio musicians.
This tale capturing pain and longing. Gorgeous.
Not bad for a coke head. No disrespect to the dead but he was kind of a knob.
No disrespect to the dead, itsme_bygolly writes, and then spunks its ill-informed disrespectful opinion all over the internet. Unless you knew him personally of course? Thought not.
It must be true because someone said they heard it somewhere.
Well we don't always get the chance. Miss you Tom.
LADY SUPER-GAGA,

Thank you for the input. I was beyond myself to just receive a private message from you, in which you went on and on in a number of paragraphs, about how crazy I am for not liking the Mojo album. Then after visiting the page for "Something Good Coming", I see that you have also taken it upon yourself to reply to my message as well as plenty of other listeners' messages on the board.
It is this type of language and presence in this world that really have us heading full speed ahead towards our never-ending doom. Not only am I an avid RP listener, but I pride myself in participating in the forums, like a mature, open-minded adult. This is perhaps why I calmly stated that I am in love with "Something Good Coming" but that nothing else on the album, has yet to grab my attention. I did not say it was crap or talk about how ridiculous others are for liking the album, as we each have our own ear for what we like and RP is a place to mingle and discuss this, again in an objective, mature manner. Heck, maybe the album will grow on me since I love Tom Petty so much, but as of right now, I am really drawn to just the one song.
So thank you for pointing out that I am all of 26, which clearly means I have no musical knowledge. I've only listened, perused, and immersed myself in musical diversity and history since as far back as I can remember, checking out some of the great artists before my time as well as the current and up and coming inspirations. You should know by now, that judging by age is not an accurate measure for musical knowledge and now I see, maturity as well. I am still struggling to understand why you would waste your energy attacking someone in a very childish and negative manner when the person was not even negative to begin with. Not that I condone attacking someone else who is negative on the RP forums, but surely you must see the difference between voicing a personal opinion and being ignorant.
Thank you for spreading your negative energy around the RP world this afternoon. I'm happy to say that I stand for positivity, compassion, peace, and forgiveness, so your words will not be tagging along with me at the end of my work day.
Can't help but remember the last things my mom said to me as she passed from cancer... I was in Tokyo, hoping to get back to see her one more time... We'd remained in touch, but so much family drama had forced distance and estrangement along every branch of the tree... She said, "It hasn't always been good for you, has it? But I tell you something, honey -- there's something good coming, you'll see." I realize that the times I truly felt hopeless were the worst. Hope is like gravity; without it we cannot be rooted nor present in the moment, without which we cannot move forward at all...
Thank you for this sincere and well expressed reminder.
trying to figure out how to post comments? Did this work?
Nope.
Absolutely friend. Tell that to the chumps that are now pushing the Carey and Bieber "duet" down our throats this festive time.
Imagine a world in which this beautiful song were a top 40 hit. What world would that be? A lot better one.
It must have been frustrating for so many of the rockers from the last century to no longer be able to reach their audiences through mainstream radio. Many of them seemed to have either given up or faded away, but Tom Petty continued to put out original tunes and top quality music until the end of his much-too-short life.
