Puscifer () is an American rock group formed in Los Angeles by Maynard James Keenan, known as the lead singer of the bands Tool and A Perfect Circle. Initially, Keenan was the only permanent member, and as such he considered the project to be his "creative subconscious". Later, frequent collaborators Mat Mitchell and Carina Round became permanent members.

I don't think you can compare Tool with the other two just because Maynard.  Tool is it's own animal and takes some work, but when you get there, it's goooood.

Maynard Keenan and Steven Wilson have been around the music business about the same amount of time; it's likely they are familiar with each other's work.  They also seem to have similar influences.

I've struggled with this too, but no longer think one is better than the other. Certainly more accessible to a larger audience.
