Kíla

Kíla is an Irish folk music group formed in 1987 in Irish language secondary school Coláiste Eóin in County Dublin.

The seven members, all from Dublin, come from different musical backgrounds and share a passion to create great music with an ability to absorb influences from across the globe. With its roots in traditional Irish, it features a strong percussive like singing and melodies driven by a serious rhythmical undercurrent

Kíla fuse the effects of their own melodies and Irish (Gaelic) lyrics, Irish folk instruments such as whistles, fiddles, Uilleann pipes, bones and bodhrán with djembe, congas, drums, mandolins, brass, and acoustic/electric/ bass guitars. Kíla’s eight members come from the differing musical backgrounds of traditional, classical, and rock.

One of my absolute favourites here on  magical RP. No matter what is happening at the time, this lifts me up and up .... tapping my toes and dancing (in my wheelchair) right along with those fabulously  lovable skeleton dudes. If music can do that for me when my ex-husband just hung up on me, then Life is Good!

I recently was watching one of my favorite animated movies, The Secret Of Kells, and noticed during the credits that Kila was responsible for much of the music.  It's a story about a boy named Brendan living at the fortress of Kells, the master illuminator who arrives with the unfinished Book of Iona, the fairy girl who befriends & helps the boy, the destruction of the fortress by the Northmen, and the completion of the book by the now-adult Brendan. Beautiful score, absolutely brilliant animation (probably 6-7 different art styles, especially of the illuminated images).

Would be nice to hear some Shooglenifty on here (plus many other Scottish or Irish "fusion" bands)! Try Breabach, Manran, Ross Ainsley, etc.
