Sunny War (née Sydney Lyndella Ward) is a Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter and guitarist. Born to a single mom in Nashville, she had a nomadic childhood, moving around from Michigan, Colorado, and living on the streets of San Francisco. War settled down in Los Angeles as a teenager, and became known for her street playing in Venice Beach. War grew up immersed in the blues music of the Nashville scene, she was also a major fan of hard rock bands like AC/DC and Motley Crüe. After moving to Venice Beach, War developed a style of guitar playing that married acoustic punk with country blues, though she does not consider herself to be a blues artist: “I feel like I am a blues guitarist, but I don't think I'm a blues artist…I only use the scales and techniques that I know and the only time I was trained in music was on blues guitar.”

She self-released her first album, Worthless, in 2015, as well as her second album Red, White and Blue in 2016. War released her 2018 album With the Sun under Hen House Studios, an independent music label in Venice Beach. She collaborated with Particle Kid (Micah Nelson) on the 2018 LP Particle War. War’s 4th album Shell of a Girl (2019) and 5th album Simple Syrup (2021) were also released under Hen House Studios. Her 2023 album Anarchist Gospel was released under New West Records, a Nashville-based record label.
