Given to Fly - Pearl Jam
Posted 21 years ago by sfearll:
Pearl Jam is a 90's version of the Doors? Well, Eddie Vedder and Jim Morrison's voices are similar baritones, and both wrote very literate lyrics. But Pearl Jam's songs often speak to social ills, they're very involved with benefits including their kids' schools, environment, getting college students interested in voting, etc. I don't think the Doors ever had that kind of social consciousness. Jim Morrison might have challenged the Establishment, but it was all about Jim Morrison.
more interested in style than art? not hardly... these are songs of love, longing, loss... PJ's never been one to go for the quick sell or popular tunes.

What about this analogy: Pearl Jam is the '90s version of the Doors, talented, good songs, nothing very masterful and always more interested in a style than art.
