Why is this even on RP? It's not like you can't hear it on a hundred ClearChannel stations any day of the week. I listen to RP to get away from this.
As far as I understand the policy of this is station is not not to play stuff that's played elsewhere but to play good music in a pleasing mix, that's why I like it.

This is very plodding, boring, stuff. It's Muzak...what you hear in the mall.

I want to shop in that mall.

i take a lot of crap for this, but jimmy is/was not the best guitar player.  there are so many more..........

who cares whether he was or was not, and what does it mean to be 'the best guitar player' anyway? he was a highly innovative player and an extraordinaly talented musician who made beautiful, ground breaking music that continues to be enjoyed by millions of people.

Yes, I'm really open minded but only 'my kind of open minded music' should be on RP, bla bla.

This is awesome, and Bill makes this world a slightly better place.

your opinion on the matter evidently has little to do with reality

This is not music. This is just sound effects.
And really annoying sound effects at that.

yes, and picasso's and mondriaan's paintings are not art.

this song is pretty good... most music that is proximate to middle east and indian flavors can be way whiney on the vocal and cause white people's ears to point... This is a nice smooth track... I wouldn't mind hearing more from this album and similar world artists....

wtf does the color of someone's skin have to do with it?

I suspect Ms. Amos would be the first one to call you out on the inherent sexism of that statement. What on earth does have her physical attractiveness have to do with her music?

recognizing someone's physical attractiveness is not sexism.

To me, this sounds more sleepy and bloodless than most music I've ever heard from Steely Dan.  At the very least, their tunes usually had some kind of rhythm and backbeat; this song always seemed pretty funereal to me. To each his own of course.

To me the song is not so much about the music, but about conjuring that feeling of flying out of an airport in a daze from a long beautiful weekend with a lover. (I don't know if the song is actually about that, but it doesn't really matter).

yes, it's 80's and yes, it's lyrics aren't that great BUT this song has a GREAT groove, it's hard to sit still with a groove like this. Man, what a bassline!

It's about Eddie van Halen, but I'm not really sure about what he's trying to say, maybe I'm missing some context, anyone have an idea?

Coldplay is a good case in point.  The current trend in North America, based on what I've heard and read, seems to be that Coldplay is now a band to verbally trash.

I don't really understand the hate for Coldplay either and agree that it seems to be driven by sheepish behavior, a bit like suddenly everyone liking Johnny Cash or wearing Ramones t-shirts.

Coldplay is not my favorite band ever, but they do have some good songs.

Regardless of the quality of the music, I believe that enigma were in fact the first (that I know of anyhow) to fuse dance with gregorian stuff, they deserve some sort of place in the history of dance. I kinda like this tune every now and then, it takes me back to my teenage years.

If this was some obscure Scandinavian artist, the ratings would all be 7s and 8s. I truly feel there are pretentious people on RP who see the name, click 1 and PSD.  You're missing out on a lot of fun.

Agreed, when listening objectively, it's not a bad song.

The narrow-minded smug idiots that think they are so 'open-minded' always remind me of the Mondriaan quote:

Art has to be forgotten. Beauty must be realized” — Piet Mondriaan

Please explain how cutting a living person's heart out to gain favor from Huitzilopochtli would be valuable to human society.

rhythm part is deceivingly difficult to play on guitar

I was almost a teenager back in the '80s when my grandparents first got cable tv and I watched this song on the novelty channel called MTV.

I'm not sure who Knopfler is "under-rated" by, but among most guitarists and other musicians, he's considered to be among the best.

People talking about 'under-rated' usually just mean 'You should like and appreciate this artist as much as I do'
