Interesting broad range of thoughts from plain bad, to somber and to works for me. And actually I can see why that occurs. For me the song seems to draw off of a consortium of mentors for this musician and vocalist. Guitar playing with emphasis on D chord, hints of a younger Neil Young floating in there amidst a background of Moody Blues era Mellotron. I would need to hear more of his work to understand where he is going with his music. But for the time being he's developing some interesting works.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds eerily similar to one of the tracks in the movie Apollo 13 when they were on their way back to earth. But that would be impossible because this album came out in 2007.
