This is the best thing I've heard all day! How great is it to be alive everybody?!

I loved this album when it came out. But Bill you should correct the year: Tigerlily was released in 1995 (not 1999).

Michael Penn released a new single two weeks ago. Both the song and the video are absolutely amazing. Please take a look on YouTube by searching "michael penn revival"

Hi Bill,

Please double check the release year for Tigerlily. My memory and Wikipedia state that the album was released in 1995. I remember because I wrote that entire summer with Tigerlily as background.

Keep up the fantastic work!

I had to mark this back to 9. . . just so I had the satisfaction of giving it a 10 again.

Same!

This always reminds me of Ry Cooder's soundtrack to the Walter Hill film JOHNNY HANDSOME. The opening piano notes always make me think we're about to hear the theme from JOHNNY...

So, I've heard this is a great album. Anybody want to comment?!?!
It is a good album, although I like their debut, "Lost Souls", better. Or maybe I just haven't given enough listen to this one.

I think it's their best album by far.

I like that I wondered what year this was recorded / released when I heard it. Designed to fit on a 78rpm, a 45, or a digital file in an elegant way, no?

Quick note: the release year listed on the info page is incorrect. This album was released in 2002 (not 1994).

RIP Curtis Hanson {#Cry}

All of Michael Penn's albums have been absolutely fantastic. One of the most consistent (in terms of quality) singer-songwriters out there. Keep it coming!

Wow! Three 10s --  Pixies' Where Is My Mind, Garbage's #1 Crush, and MMJ -- in a row! Thanks for this amazing set Bill!

Actually I lied. The sign is gone. Not sure when that happened. Just goes to show sometimes you don't pay close attention to every detail of your environment.

I work in Hollywood and see the Villa Elaine apartment sign everyday. Didn't realize it was the album cover. I can assure everyone it hasn't changed much in the ensuing fifteen years since that picture was taken.

Have to agree with the last comment: 1979 is a great song but it's been played to within an inch of its life (especially here in Southern California). Bill: respectfully, may we retire 1979 until 2079? And then you can revive the crap out of it. {#Angel}
