One of my all time favorite songs performed by one of my all time favorite bands. I saw them perform at the Hatch Shell in Boston during their Bright As Yellow tour, and they were magical. Something about their sound and the love that they put into their songs just makes it for me, and takes me back to that wonderful Spring day in 1996.
Thank you Bill and Rebecca. This song really hit the spot tonight.
Tom Petty, we lost you a few days ago as of this writing.
Saw you perform at the Cow Palace in Daly City, CA on Friday, April 26, 1981, along with Stevie Nicks. I was with my best friend Greg. We had a blast.
It was an amazing show, and it made a huge impression on me as a young man. It was a loud and large crowd and a raucous time. We were standing on our chairs, but eventually tried to get closer to the stage. We got up close and were right there in it for most of the show. It was pretty intense being that close to the stage.
Some people were doing hard drugs and drinking and it was creating a problem because some were having a very bad time with it and becoming violent, marring the experience.
My friend and I got ejected along with many others because some people were fighting, which was a drag because we were peaceful and got caught up in it while heading for the exit to have a smoke. We were at the wrong place at the wrong time.
We could still hear the show from the parking lot since it was SO LOUD, and we hung out with others who had been kicked out without cause, and made some new friends. It was a good time, and we didn't miss any of the show.
For me, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were rock and roll. They defined my brand of rock that I enjoyed the most.
The song "American Girl" is a classic. It reminds me of The Byrds and of my time living in California. It brings back good memories of friends and happy times.
I hope others share their memories of going to see band play live. I would love to hear what others experienced.
Not that I want to get into this, but it's funny in its fashion. The Creator, it seems, isn't with a sense of....humor? The generation who made this song their anthem went on to be fooled upwards of 3 TIMES since this song first hit the airwaves in 1971. I'm on the tail end of that generation, but will freely admit that as smart as we proved to be - I point to all the modern tech that stems from us - we are also probably one of the most gullible and stupid generations to have come along in some time. We won't get fooled again? Nah....How about
Pogo's anthem is probably more apt....
Bullshit. It was the religious right that got suckered by propaganda, not my generation. We didn't get fooled again, we just were not in large enough numbers to counter the power grab. For my part, I protested against Reagan, Bush, Dubya and Trump. Idiots got suckered in by Putin through social media, enough to do enormous damage. Obama didn't have Congress behind him. They didn't have the votes, so you can pull Obama and Biden from your list, thanks.
I'm a HUGE Tom Petty fan, and I might be hearing this song for the first time.
Wow, just.. wow.
This ones a gem.
We miss you already, Tom.
Saw you at the Cow Palace in '83 with Stevie Nicks.
Such a good time.

It might need more cowbell though.
Always loved Lindsay Buckingham's playing.
Truly amazing.
It brings back good memories for me. Thank you Bill.

I saw King Crimson perform in Santa Cruz when the band was on their Thrak tour. I was blown away.
Yup, same shit, different asshole. Same stupid smirk. Same lie, saying that everything is okay. Same mafia tactics.
