The Sound Is Fading - Robbie Robertson

Well, it was a pleasant surprise to hear this tune on RP! My other favourite from this album is "Unbound".
Fields of Gold - Eva Cassidy

Wow. It's rare when a cover surpasses the original.

It's good to hear that voice again.

Such a great place to hear The Blind Boys of Alabama, who really bring the song up to a higher level, as they did so well when I saw him live last fall...SUCH a great show, the DVD can't begin to capture the experience.

This is about as good as it gets. If you want more, do it yourself.
A Day in the Life - The Beatles

One of the best by one of the best ever.

I can remember the stage of being a kid fascinated with Ripley's Believe It or Not, the Guinness Book of Records, stories of mammoths buried in ice, extinct creatures living in deep lakes, UFO sightings, mummies, etc. and, of course, peoples' hair turning white overnight and strange cultish churches. These songs just evoke so perfectly that transition period between wide-eyed innocence and a healthy helping of skepticism.
Wow! Well said!
Helter Skelter - The Beatles

Last Played: Never ?!!? Well, excuse me but what the #$*(&)@!! is it doing on the list then?!? ONLY THE BEST FUCKING BEATLES SONG EVER!
The Golden Age - Cracker

Without a doubt, their best song! - The average man, in many ways, lives better than the ancient kings, in terms of comforts, and options (i.e. the availability of knowledge, travel opportunities). Yet, somehow, the spirit of man is looking for something else. Most of us are still searching for fulfillment or happiness somewhere else, and many of us become lost along the way.

Holy Annoying-Piece-of-Crap, Batman!
Heaven’s Here on Earth - Tracy Chapman
Posted 21 years ago by aslegros:
I have decided that this song is my creed. It expresses all I feel. There is no heaven, no hell, except what we create right here on earth. We are God and the devil at once. I have to believe that we can make this a "heaven on earth", or a "hell on earth" depending only upon our collective, and individual actions.

Fast Car tricked millions into buying her album. That was a good song; everything else blows. Hard to find a Tracy Chapman song I like. In the immortal words of David Lowrie (Cracker), "What the world needs now is another folk singer like I need a hole in my head!"
Love Cracker, but figure they like 'good' folk singers too. Check out "Heaven's Here on Earth". I think it's my creed.
What How When Where - Ani DiFranco
Posted 21 years ago by aslegros:
Why why why why why does RP keep playing her?
What what what what what will it take to make them stop?
How how how how how can anyone stand it?
When when when when when will she discover melody?
Where where where where where can I express my displeasure?
Creation Dream - Bruce Cockburn

If you ever get the chance, the CBC has a good 1-hr biography on BC. i.e. seminal moments that turned/shaped his music. He has one particular tune that I enjoy which he wrote (IIRC) after his daughter's birth. "Little Seahorse" on In_the_falling_dark ? I wish I could remember... have all his vinyal, but never replaced on CD. Wish there was an upgrade policy. :)

I too had all his songs (20+ albums) on vinyl or tape. I downloaded a bunch of mp3's in the Napster heyday, and I have bought lots of the old, as well as the new, stuff on CD (including In the Falling Dark. Perhaps I have something you're looking for. If you're interested, send me a request via ICQ (I have the junk-mail filter set on my hotmail, so you won't reach me there unless you're on my contact-list).
This is truly one of my favourite tunes of his, on, arguably, his best album. I recall a comment that Bruce made about this song, and I'm paraphrasing here..."I think that this is one of my most successful attempts to blend music, and lyrics". Naturally the actual quote is much more poetic!
The Power to Believe II - King Crimson

P.I.N. - Rheostatics

These guys, and the Tragically Hip, and Bruce Cockburn make me PROUD to be Canadian - you know we are desperate, and cloying, don't you? We want U.S. approval, so we can spit on your flag, and say "But we had HAND", before you squash us.
Anyhow, back to the Rheos. Did I mention they were Canadian? And every bit as good as the best I've ever heard. Check 'em out, eh?
I Love You - Daniel Lanois

One of the masters of sound - and quite intelligent, and emotive lyrics. I love this artist.
