always liked these guys. i've got a 45 by them that actually says by "tyrannosauros rex".
Tyrannosauros Rex was the first incarnation of Marc Bolan's band -- it was folky and funky and quirky and I'll bet that 45 is worth something today -- very rare I'd think. I'd love to be able to hear some old Tyrannosauros Rex!!!!!!!!

Thanks Bill for the great California set you played today! As only a transplanted New Jersey girl could say --

"The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame says you had to have recorded your first piece of music at least 25 years ago. "
Maybe Moby and Radiohead will make it if they last that long. (I hope they do actually, but really, think of all the people you've most likely forgotten about during the last 'n' years - no lasting power etc)
Anyway love Tom Petty (and yes, he actually was more than slightly derivative at first -- but he was in a 'good' way)

Idiot Wind - Bob Dylan

Dylan at his most cynical - a beautiful version of such a sad, sad poetic song.

Apeman (live) - The Kinks
Posted 20 years ago by shari:
It's an ape-mon world after all -- back in the day they had the most entertaining concerts (after the Davies bros. finished bashing each other - some people felt that was definitely part of the entertainment) Love the Kinks!!

A Classic -- soooooo sad for me ..
For those who mention the HP commercial -- I've never seen it. The best thing I can say is don't watch so much TV! <-(

Don’t Follow - Alice in Chains

I always liked Alice In Chains -- listening to it now I hear shades of REM at the beginning and U2 at the end! Niever noticed that before!

Blue Moon - The Mavericks

very nice version of this song! I'd call it rockabilly (is that term still used?) Kinda, Roy Orbison, Chris Issak. I still like the Cowboy Junkies version too -- but I'd also love to hear the Marcels!

Solsbury Hill - Sarah McLachlan

Well at least we know that Sarah's come a long way since this song was recorded! The band and arrangement also leave something to be desired!

Shoot Out the Lights - Los Lobos
Posted 20 years ago by shari:
Interesting version of a GREAT R&L Thompson song from a great album. Nice but can never never duplicate the incredible feeling and tugs of that original. I don't believe I've ever heard any other cover done of this song before. As covers go, Los Lobos version isn't too shabby!

Rock Lobster - The B‐52s
Posted 20 years ago by shari:
I remember enjoying this song when it first came out. I remember jumping up and down and dancing around crazily to this song back in the day. I liked the iconoclastic tone. Quckly the novelty wore off. Very quickly. What was I thinking? Who is the joke on? I think that the band swarmingly assumes that the joke is on us. I've heard this song repeatedly, endlessly, from that day to this. Oldies radio, retro radio, classic radio, All 80s radio, top 40, top 80, ad nauseum. IF I NEVER HEAR THIS SONG AGAIN IT WILL BE TOO SOON.
Thank you

Nothing As It Seems - Pearl Jam

I like this song! And we also know guitarist Mike McCreadys influences: Hendrix and Gilmour - not bad as influences go! He does a good job of nailing the styles.
