Not sure I've ever been the first comment. I feel pressure to say something truly profound or insightful about this song, or about the world in general. But I'm feeling a dearth of creativity. So on this New Year's Eve Eve Eve, just stopping her to express thanks for RP and introducing me to songs I'd likely never find on my own. (I will say this guy sounds a bit like a poor man's David Gray. Not bad.)
I've never been the first comment, and I feel some obligation to be poetic or inspirational. But prepare to be disappointed. I do love this band, though. I saw them when they were just coming up - just after "Gimme a Drink" became a hit and they were still playing small venues in small cities. Just good, easy music that soothes the soul.
When I was in high school I had an old clock radio -- you could wake up to the beep or the radio. As a joke my brother set the alarm for the radio to come on at 3 am and then proceeded to turn the volume to 11. This is the song that came on and scared the s**t out of me. Great song, terrible memory.
These lyrics hit different in 2025. Shame on you, for sure.
Let's go road block trippin' in the
Middle of the night up in Gainesville town
There'll be blue lights flashing down the long dirt road
When they ask me to step out
They say we be looking for illegal immigrants can we check your car
I say you know it's funny I think we were on the same boat back in 1694
I said ooh la la
Shame on you
You know how I found this song? It was a song on Rock Band, that game you played on a Wii. I had never heard of Cold War Kids before but loved this song the first time I heard it. Glad to hear it here.
pretty awful
If only we had a way to skip to the next song...
More from these guys is always good!
Well, you beat me by 10 seconds so turns out I wasn't the first comment!

Rage Against One Night in Bangkok ;)
With a touch of Eminem.
I am literally big in Japan. I am 6'6" and every time I go there, I think of this song. Personal theme song.
I'm 5'8" and loved being in Japan because while I didn't feel big, I also didn't feel short!
A time and a place and a girl. I remember them all well.
Me too -- 24.5 years later and still married. This song always makes me think of her and us.
