This song, no, this entire album has many fond memories associated with it. Sitting tousands of miles away from home, this song made me feel very much at home.

HOLY CRAP! Mehbooba on RP?! The original song is from the legendary (for Indians) Hindi movie Sholay. I must have watched that movie at least 15 times... a classic.
The original:
Must watch Sholay again...
:goodvibes: Well, I have no idea what he is singing about, but my toes were a tappin'. I also liked his singing. :goodvibes:
Translation:Bulla, I know not who I am
Bulla, I know not who I am
Nor am I the believer in mosque
Nor am I in idol worship
Nor am in the pure or the impure
Nor am I in the Vedas
Nor am I in the intoxicants
Nor am I in the carefree deviant
Nor am I union nor grief
Nor am I in the pure/impure
Nor am I of the water nor of the land
Nor am I fire nor air
Bulla, I know not who I am
Nor am I Arabic nor from Lahore
Nor am I the Indian city of Nagaur
Nor am I Hindu nor a Peshawari turk
Nor did I create the difference of faith
Nor did I create Adam-Eve
Nor did I name myself
Beginning or end I know just the self
Do not recognise ''the other one''
There's none wiser than I
Who is this Bulla Shah
Bulla, I know not who I am
I don't know what to say... it's got shades of some low budget bollywood fare, shades of decent sitar, and the accompanying tabla beat (tabla or mrudangam or something else?)... well, they wasted a beautiful instrument.
My first thought was "Kaun Hai Jo Sapno Mein Aaya" -- that old Rajendra Kumar. But I don't think that's it, tho it does have that typical million-violins sound which is similar to the one sampled here.
GOT IT! Now I can sleep peacefully.
Baharon Phool Barsao (also a Rajendra Kumar/ Mohammad Rafi song)
I 2nd Arun notion... but don't remember which song either - if you listen closely it strike a typical chord from the '70s.

I did not hear this song, so not sure what this is about, but it could also be about this guy. I believe that Gyaneshwar is just another rendering of Dnyaneshwar in the English language.
Imagine dancing to this song in the rain.
Saw DP in Bangalore a few years back. We'd smuggled some recreational herbs to the concert... and just as they started with this song, it started raining. Good times, man, good times.
Hearing this here, it strikes me that Jackson Browne is entirely under-represented on RP. How can that be, particularly when it is clear that so many like him? I know I do. Outstanding tune.
Under-represented as in not liked by many or under-represented as in not enough songs on the playlist? Because there are quite a few songs here and this song is rated pretty high.
EVERYTIME I listen to this, I bump up my rating! It's on 9 now.
The timing was just perfect... I'm at work, cursing every single person I work with and thinking how much it would suck to come in to work tomorrow (weekend) and then this track comes along to soothe my nerves. Ahhhhhh, it's a beautiful world. :)
Yes! That's what made me look, too! But apparently there is no connection between them.
Will definitely look into this band.
