I like Philip Glass for the same reason I like Stereolab. I find the repitition hypnotic. I can understand why it would drive some people out of their skulls, though.

Her enunciation is aggravating: she adds and drops syllables almost at random. Singing "mess" like it was spelled "emayuhs" is a bit too much.

I love to play this song and have people guess the band. No one's got it yet. Who cares if the song doesn't go with anything else on the Meddle album (or anything else Floyd did). I think it's a lot of fun.

Tom Waits is thrillingly grotesque.

Between Maestro Waits and Maestro Leonard Cohen, I would be hard put to say which has the more wonderfully expressive voice and poetry. Both are magnificent paradigms of the modern troubadour.
Too easy. More wonderfully expressive poetry: Cohen More wonderfully expressive voice: Waits

I first heard the Flaming Lips on David Letterman yaers ago and thought, what is this crap? I made a point of avoiding them until Beck toured with them while promoting Sea Change, and thought, this can't possibly be the same band....

What sounded fresh and new when Enigma did it over ten years ago is now SO PLAYED OUT

I guess I'm the only one who thinks this sounds just a bit like "Heard it through the Grapevine"?

This song has mystical powers. If you have an obnoxious song stuck in your head, all you have to do is think of "Kashmir". It's like some sort of musical palate cleanser, wiping away the aftertaste of whatever syrupy pop ballad that's being forced down our throats today.

I don't have a problem with the lyrics, but the music isn't exactly daring: it's just straight-up alt rock. "Ho-Hum" sounds like an appropriate rating to me.

I started paying attention to the Flaming Lips when Beck asked them to be his backup band on his Sea Change tour. The more I hear from them, the more I like them.

I expect country music to be corny, but this takes the cake.

This song has always annoyed me, even back when I liked most Duran Duran.

So, the 80's aren't scheduled to become hip again for two and a half more years. Maybe in 2007 these guys will sound OK, but now now.

I like it, piercing vocals and all. It's fun and different.

I don't mind Sisters of Mercy per se...it's just that their songs always seem to go on about three minutes too long.

"Gay" is not a musical category.
No? Have you heard the "Queer As Folk" soundtrack?

How does this wonderful project elicit such venomous responses?
Because it is human nature to suspect that anyone who is famous, rich, or powerful is motivated primarily by arrogance and greed. The more commendable a prominent person's actions appear to be, the more suspicious people become.

Every time I've heard this, I've had to check the computer to see who it is. It always catches my ear. However, I have a hard time getting myself to admit that I like these guys. They're just so...gimmicky. They're more about performance art than music.

I was a closet AImee Mann fan for a long time. Now I finally have the self-confidence to admit that I absolutely love her music, this album especially. Whew. That felt good.
