Soon Love Soon - Vienna Teng

I guess this isn't my favorite song of hers--I'm not into the inspirational lyrics--but I just love her voice and her piano. She's local, too....graduated from Stanford in computer science! I missed her at a small club here in SF, and am sorry I did. Someone back down there somewhere they saw her at the Bottom Line and raved about her live performance. oh well, next time.
Over You - T‐Bone Burnett

yes, he's not someone you hear very often. A hidden gem, kinda like Daniel Lanois: they're both powerful behind the scenes, but they can write and play and sing as well as they can produce others.
Who Do You Love - Bo Diddley

this is the Real Thing. (although I like quicksilver's version too, played earlier.)
Wassiye - Habib Koité & Bamada

Habib is just wonderful. He's played in San Francisco a number of times...not only is he a great musician, but he's very hunky to look at!
Because - The Beatles

hey, bill, I like the idea of playing the whole album side from Abbey Road! a few other classic albums would lend themselves to playing the whole side....Let it Bleed side two; side two of John Barleycorn Must Die...there are many more...
Bodhisattva - Steely Dan

wow, I haven't heard this song in years and years. It's one of their best. There's something about the way the different melodic themes run together that's so tight. really catchy tune.
Coulibaly - Amadou & Mariam

I don't care, I love this song. it has earned a place on my iPod.
Thank You for Sending Me an Angel - Talking Heads

The early, spare years of TH were the best, IMO. I had the good fortune to see them perform in 1979. It was riveting, in a very different way from their later more complex configurations. I prefer the leaner sound to the world-beat sound.
One Little Song - Gillian Welch

Gillian Welch played a killer set this past Saturday at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, a FREE five-stage musical extravaganza held in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco for the past 6 years. I bet Bill and Rebecca were there! The sound wasn't so great for the first part of the set and a lot of people were talking, but then they launched into China Doll and it just shut everyone up, it was so beautiful. Here's a photo of Gillian, David Rawlings, and Emmylou Harris, who's a regular at this musical event.

Jeeze...haven't heard this in ages! :^)
no kidding. it's great! so much better than the more commonly heard White Bird. wouldn't mind hearing Girl with No Eyes, either, now that I think about it.
Won't You Come Around? - Paul Kelly

I love this guy, but I'm the only person I know who's ever heard of him.
His "glory be to god" from Words and Music has some of the most erotic rock lyrics, ever.
Ride My See‐Saw - The Moody Blues
Posted 19 years ago by mizgeee:
oh man, this brings back memories of being in my dorm room late at night with the black light on, smokin and jokin w/ my pals. I had the good fortune to see them in London in 1971...although the show was somewhat disappointing because the live songs sounded exactly the same as on the album. these guys were not into the improvisation thing.
Mad World - Tears for Fears

I love the gary jules version but this...well, it's the fuckin' original! long live the 80's!
Fools in Love - Inara George
Posted 19 years ago by mizgeee:
I like this! don't watch Grey's Anatomy so never heard it before. and I totally didn't get that it's JJ's song until I thought about it. I agree with the person below who said that a good cover is one where the artist makes the song their own, and George accomplished this.
Rocky World - Daniel Lanois

Ditto on the comments about his chops as a producer. Admittedly more interesting than as a performer.
you gotta see him live to appreciate him as a performer. He's almost unbearably intense and charismatic. I never miss him when he comes to my town.
True Companion - Marc Cohn

aw, bill, you and rebecca are so sweet together! I hope you're having a lovely and lovey valentine's day, and thanks so much for creating radioparadise.com, the best source for the best music on the airwaves!!
A Hard Rain's a Gonna Fall - Edie Brickell & New Bohemians
Posted 19 years ago by mizgeee:
sorry, this just doesn't do it for me. This is a great song, and she just flattens its punch with the plodding rhythm and her too-sweet voice. buh-bye.
Jacksonville - Sufjan Stevens

I have a lot of respect for this guy's ambitious project. I'd respect him still, even if he only gets to 5 or 6 states.
Requiem for Mother - The Durutti Column

I love this song..but...let's hear some more from these guys! so far this is the only song I've heard on RP by them
The Future - Leonard Cohen

leonard's an old fart, but he can still write provocative songs and rock with the best of them.
