Trail of Tears - Guadalcanal Diary
Posted 20 years ago by johnc:
Had heard of but never heard before. Sounds a lot like REM, but quite good!
Buzzin Fly - Tim Buckley
Posted 20 years ago by johnc:
Nope, turns out he drowned in the Memphis harbor. Sorry folks.
Buzzin Fly - Tim Buckley

Jeff Buckley drowned while swimming in a river.
Anna Begins - Counting Crows
Posted 20 years ago by johnc:
Ugh. I think of all counting crows songs, I can think of one I've actually semi-enjoyed. Dump this from the playlist, please!
At the Bottom of Everything - Bright Eyes
Posted 20 years ago by johnc:
The more I hear Bright Eyes, the less I like. What a hack. Sure he's a singer songwriter and he's young. But there are far more talented singer songwriters who are actually good.
Couldn't agree more. A folk-song style beaten to death, being beaten more. Does he think this is original song-writing, naive politics?
Street Spirit (Fade Out) - Radiohead
Posted 20 years ago by johnc:
Absolutely. Radiohead is phenomenal.
Dreams - The Cranberries
Posted 20 years ago by johnc:
This is a worn-out song. Played to death elsewhere, but very cool when it premiered.
Hidden Place - Björk
Posted 20 years ago by johnc:
Like most of what Bjork does. Interesting, different. What makes it worthy of RP
Red Red Red - Fiona Apple
Posted 20 years ago by johnc:
Fiona harkens back to the best of the female jazz singers, letting the almost off-key sound suggest weariness and misery. I think she's a brilliant, ambitious artist.
Cinder Alley - 16 Horsepower
Posted 20 years ago by johnc:
interesting. First 5 seconds thought it was a Led Zepp. single I'd missed. Vocals definitely reminiscent of Robert Plant.
Be My Yoko Ono - Barenaked Ladies
Posted 20 years ago by johnc:
Uh, actually I was referring to the post re: BNL following Lennon.
Be My Yoko Ono - Barenaked Ladies
Posted 20 years ago by johnc:
The last post, my thoughts exactly! Plus, BNL are wonderfully sarcastic and satiric.
Float - Matson Belle
Posted 20 years ago by johnc:
I love it. Bjork with a splash of Tori Amos, in the vocal style. but the sound isn't quite as out there (in a good way) as Bjork.
Strangest Things - The Devlins
Posted 20 years ago by johnc:
Exactly, Wallflowerish. Country Lite. Ugh.
Mexican Moon - Concrete Blonde
Posted 20 years ago by johnc:
I'm with the Mex. moon fans. Love C. blonde, but it doesn't have be "classic" blonde.
See Emily Play - Pink Floyd
Posted 20 years ago by johnc:
Ah, but I love Syd, his later apparent insanity is what made early Floyd wonderful. Some of the lyrics are so strange their hilarious. Indeed, a trip back in time, not amazing music.
