For fans of the song, check out the documentary THE DAY the MUSID DIED: the Story of Don McLean’s ‘American Pie’ now streaming on Paramount . It dispels some of the myths surrounding the lyrics, including some of the nonsensical ones below.
Found this explanation, check it out: The descending bass line was originally written by Jake Holmes and was played as "I'm Confused" by Jimmy Page and The Yardbirds. When Jake Holmes heard Led Zeppelin's version, he simply shrugged and said (in regard to Page), "..what the hell. Let him have it!" Good account here as well: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dazed_and_Confused_(song) Jimmy's guitar solo still sounds amazing.
Sounds like a track I'd hear on my local aor station's tired playlist (if I listened to local radio). Reminds me of seeing them live in their prime, boring show except for the excellent drumming.
I agree with chucklesalmon and tg3k's comments below, and I know we're not alone. No disrespect intended, but it's during those '80's retread tunes that I find myself headed downstream for something with a little soul. Otherwise, luv ya' Bill & RP.
