Hawley seems to have charmed the Belgians. Happened to enjoy the man and his band in concert in the Botanique in Brussels October last year.
I like 'm and I like the Ocean.
I am still wondering why in Belgium and the Netherlands this insipid cover managed to reach the music top charts even while Lykke Li's superb original was still rightly sojourning there. To my dismay it seems to last longer than the original, to this day being regularly played at even the more respectable radio stations in Belgium.
With the native underdog feeling of small country dwellers, Belgians may overrate their own produce, but I hope RP, as the weatherglass of the global tasteful audience, shows somewhat more maturity and commits this cover to the lowest shelves of the dusty and silent archives, where it belongs.
Indeed, I am astonished too.
