This sounds like a never ending loop.
Here's a sample of the lyrics:
Men, what has gotten into us? How can you rape a child before she has matured? If it is desire, what kind of desire is this?
Sad and unthinkable, but if it keeps at least one person from victimizing another, it should be a never ending loop.

Either way, it's an amazing piece to me.
This sounds like a slightly more dramatic "the Lion Sleeps Tonight".
I was thinking more along the lines of a vastly improved Cirque du Soleil soundtrack.

My appreciation for Bjork goes up a level after hearing this one. I love her voice and her quirkiness.

This reminds me of Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein."
I'm hearing touches of Morphine's work in this.

I never get tired of hearing this song. I do wonder how they went from something this sublime to something as ridiculous as "We Built This City."

I wish I knew what they were singing. It's a very lovely song.
Someone else posted the lyrics in Spanish. Here's the English translation as found on Wikipedia:
From Alto Cedro I go to Marcané
Then from Cueto, I go to MayarÃ
The love I have for you
is something I cannot deny
My mouth is watering
I just can't help it
When Juanica and Chan Chan
sifted sand at the beach
The way she shook the sieve
made Chan Chan feel embarassed
Clean the path of straw
cause I want to sit down
on that tree trunk I see
and right now I can't get there
From Alto Cedro I go to Marcané
Then from Cueto, I go to MayarÃ
Here's an explanation of the song, also from Wikipedia:
A fan that met Compay Segundo back on 1989, said...that: 'Chan Chan and his girlfriend Juanica shake a jibe to sift sand on the edge of the sea. Juanica looked so sensual shaking the jibe that Chan Chan felt shame that other people saw them.'
The most complete explanation...says: 'The song relates the story of a man and a woman (Chan Chan and Juanica) who are building a house, and go to the beach to get some sand. Chan Chan collects the sand and puts it on the 'jibe'. Juanica shakes it, and to do so she shakes herself, making Chan Chan ashamed...The origin of this tale is a farmer song learnt by Compay Segundo when he was twelve years old.'
Alto Cedro, Marcané, Cueto and Mayarà are four towns near each other in HolguÃn Province, on the east side of Cuba.

Best SD Aja. Close second the one with the snake building on the cover. I guess I'm having a geezer moment. Can't remember the name. Oh, well, off to Walgreen's for my Viagra. Bye, kids!
Does this mean that you're Cousin Dupree or the "Hey Nineteen" narrator

Yes, overplayed in this city! Liked it when I first heard it, though. Can't you see this song being played at your high school dance? My friends and I would likely have tried to headbang to it. ;)
Overplayed here on double time because the group will be in concert very soon. Shame, because it's not a bad song. How many good songs (and the careers of good performers) have to die from overexposure because of a lack of restraint by our media outlets?
Make Believe Mambo - David Byrne
Posted 18 years ago by cattgirl813:
I'll be in the minority with this comment: This is one of my favorite David Byrne songs. The drums, the horns, the groove, the laid back vocals - it's all heavenly to me.
I know there are better songs in this genre and better Byrne songs in his catalog, but this one is one of my favorites. It makes me smile and sway.

I Heard It Through the Grapevine - Marvin Gaye
Posted 18 years ago by cattgirl813:
As much as I love Marvin and this version of the song, I have to say that I love the version by Gladys Knight and the Pips even more.
According to A&E's bio of Marvin, there's a version of this song recorded by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. They were the first to do the song according to the bio. I'd love to hear what that version sounds like, too.
Perhaps RP can play more Marvin. How about some cuts from "The Soulful Moods of Marvin Gaye" sometime? That was his first album and it's almost never played anywhere.
One Big Love - Patty Griffin

Looking forward to hearing more Patty Griffin on here - how about some cuts from "Living With Ghosts" sometime?

Lullaby - The Cure

In my opinion, I think this is the hottest song they've ever made. There is such a sexy vibe to this, it almost makes the lead singer seem attractive. Almost.

From AMG:
Personally, I find the record-scratching on this version unecessary and distracting -- which just shows what an old fart I am, apparently!
Thanks for the history on this song and the original artist. I'm with you on the scratching, though I prefer to think of myself as a middle-aged fart. This means that you're a vintage fart, not old. "Old" sounds so harsh.

Stir it Up - Bob Marley
Posted 18 years ago by cattgirl813:
I used to work for a contract furniture company. The woman in the cube next to me cut out a paper sun, put it in the light over our desk, and would play Bob Marley tunes every Friday - "Island Fridays" she called it - for a temporary escape from the day-to-day routine. It was especially uplifting in the winter.
Her husband ended up being transferred to Germany, and when she left, "Island Fridays" went with her. Every time I hear this song, I think back to those times and smile.

It was ambitious. While I appreciate the attempt, it pales a bit in comparison to the original to me. Points for trying.

Sounds like an Asian version of The Young and the Restless.
Soothing though.
You know, I'm not into soaps, but I wouldn't mind seeing that show almost as much as a Bollywood version of "Dynasty."
