Yes a great unknown tune from this band. They lean towards more rocky tunes for sure - New Orleans is Sinking, 50 Mission Cap, Nautical Disaster, Blow at High Dough, Ahead by a Century, etc. Unique voice that may take some adjusting to for new listeners but well worth the effort.

If you like this slowish tune, you may like Bobcaygeon, Wheat Kings, 38 Years Old. But Fiddler's Green definitely has a more Celtic / Maritime feel to it that is not so prevalent in their other stuff.

This is a really good Van Morrison tune but morphs to 'great' when taken within the context of that amazingly rich and layered album. It is different for sure but that is Van. He can swing from R&B to country to jazz to pop, etc. etc. and still be Van on the most basic level. Get this album and be patient. This album became transcendental (sp) for me after many listens. It didn't hook me in the usual poppy way that some songs/albums do, but created a unique world/mood for me. Sounds a little artsy but Van is one of those few artists that can appeal to the masses without dumbing down his inspiration or pandering to short-term thinking music execs. He's one of a kind and it's always been reflected in his creations. Love Van Morrison.

Very moving song both in lyrics and mood. I have a KCRW live in-studio version that is stunning as well...the harmonies at the end really jut out and jump down your throat...sublime, yup

Highly overlooked Van album. One of his best of the past 30 years, in my opinion.

I wonder how long the days and nights are on Mars? And if they really have a grand canyon equivalent? If they do how old is it? Where's the water?? ok - I gotta go finish, maybe start....Where did I put that map? i forgot where i was going. Map of the problemmatique. Don't try that word in scrabble. Too many letters anyway. Where was I going?

Could be the only danceable Neil Young tune that I know of ('danceable' is to be interpreted loosely obviously). Love it! Get those boots a stomping!

I want to like his songs, but most of them irritate me for some reason. Finally, this song changes that. Excellent.
I want to hate his songs but most of them make me feel good for some reason.

Tragically upbeat. I love this tune. Don't know why exactly.

yeah I'm with heckler about hecklers...

Seriously though... just looking down a few of the comments ... I'm like.. yeah.. I feel that way about TGD (The Grateful'o Dead) ok.. I apologize I don't do that for "windoze" and I don't mean to insult your demigods ... but Radio Paradise is one of the best places to hear just about anything that isn't country or western... and even some that come quite close..

what many need to remember when they hear these songs that they dislike.. is that somewhere, someone is having their little moment of paradise in the day.. and for me.. i hear this song starting and I start to feel a little calming mellow spot in the center of my chest ... and I then make the point of enjoying the moment because someday I'll have wished I could ...

Well said. This is why i listen to RP. Nuggets for me. It doesn't matter to me how many people like it or what the rating is.

I am a huge fan of Van's music but have always had a hard time with the ornery human being attached to the music...I can usually live with it and understand passionate artists are not of this world and react differently than average people...I'm ok with that but I'm having a real hard time with his latest concert tour....I've never seen him live and really want to regardless of all the potential for having an unpleasant experience with one of my artistic genius heros.

Here's the catch. His latest concert tour brings him thru Montreal. Beautiful hall, but somewhat large obviously. There are some 'cheap seats' available at $100 but the decent tix are $230 or $280. This comes to over $300 for a single night. Tough to swallow. Do you think artists know what they're doing to their fans, many of whom have a tough time handing over a monthly food bill (almost) for 4 for a couple of hours of live entertainment?

Have some of these artists lost contact with reality or are their cd revenues drying up so badly (downloading) that concerts are now their best source of revenue?

Enlighten me!

As a fringe Wilco fan, I must say that you have to see them in concert. Great musicians, incredible energy and although a lot of songs are low key, most are definitely not sleep-inducing. I was blown away the first time I saw them and have seen them 3 times since even though I don't know the names of more than 3-4 songs.

This one has aged relatively well. Great energy. How did we dance to all this stuff? I think we jumped around a lot.

I first heard this on a compilation from KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic". She sings it live in studio and it was awesome. I liked it the first time I heard it but have grown to love it over time. Ashamed to say, I don't know a single other song by her. garoo1980 wrote:
Surely "What If God Was One Of Us?" was Joan Osborne? Probably 10 years ago but a missive hit for sure

Yaaaaaaaa! A true Canadian classic released way back in 1989...awesome live band with Gord Downie often going into crazy vocal/poetic 'tangents' which are side-splittingly funny and/or achingly ironic and sad.
