He's so eclectic. This is a good album and funny too (listen to Debra). This reminds me a bit of Missing on Guero.

Kinda, boring really.

Perhaps the reason he's not that well known in the States is because he's got a weak voice and can't carry a tune. Objectively speaking, of course.

...you young whippersnappers! Actually, in their day, Yes, were considered quite innovative and part of a "classical" movement in rock music, during the late 60s and early 70s. Unlike many of the musicians of their day (and today and throughout history for that matter) they could actually read music, had been trained as musicians and (I repeat) COULD READ MUSIC--something that Paul McCartney never learned how to do. I'm not saying Yes were as good as the Beatles, but they do have their place in the Pantheon of rock musicians. They were a nice change from the Partridge Family, Donny and Marie Osmond, and some of the other 60s equivalents of, well, Brittney I guess, only Mormon. It's like people poo-poohing Vivaldi because for ages you only heard the Four Seasons, which everyone got sick of. And then someone found a huge trove of his music that showed he was as good as the rest of them. Remember what Santayana said: Those who don't know squat about history are doomed to repeat it. You young whelps!

Sorry, just plain can't stand this song. Never been compelled to write that before.
Tell me about it. What a wanker. It would work if it were about 7 minutes shorter. Yuck. He's just too much in love with wimpering voice. Maybe he should go on American Idol and have Simone ream him a new one.

Thank, I guess. Pretty much of a downer. I guess I'll go cut myself, too. What's the point? highwindows wrote:
All around me are familiar faces Worn out places, worn out faces Bright and early for their daily races Going nowhere, going nowhere Their tears are filling up their glasses No expression, no expression Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow No tomorrow, no tomorrow And I find it kind of funny I find it kind of sad The dreams in which I'm dying Are the best I've ever had I find it hard to tell you I find it hard to take When people run in circles It's a very, very Mad World Mad world Children waiting for the day they feel good Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday And I feel the way that every child should Sit and listen, sit and listen Went to school and I was very nervous No one knew me, no one knew me Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson Look right through me, look right through me And I find it kind of funny I find it kind of sad The dreams in which I'm dying Are the best I've ever had I find it hard to tell you I find it hard to take When people run in circles It's a very, very Mad World Mad World Illogical world Mad World

Does anyone have the lyrics for this song?

So it's a demo. That still doesn't disprove that is not better than that overblown dirge on the White Album. I'm also not saying George Martin wasn't a brilliant musician. His string quartet in Eleanor Rigby is one of my favorite pieces and probably prepped me for Beethoven's later string quartets, which are the work of pure genius, like a lot of the Beatles' works, except for maybe, "Why don't we do it in the road?" Riiiight - except that's not a pared down version. It's a demo take - never intended for release. It's just George and a guitar on that one so the guys who created the version you so hate are named Lennon, McCartney, Starr and, um, Clapton. This will break your heart, spacedad. The entirety of the pure demo you so love can be heard on Anthology 3. The orchestra was added for the LOVE version. Who did the orchestra? A guy named George Martin. Damage, indeed. TJ

The more I listen to to this album, the more it irks me, except for a few songs. The album was really mashed up by George Martin's son and the remaining Beatles (Poor Paul, worried about his alimony & Tone Deaf Ringo) OK'd it probably for monetary reasons since Michael Jackson screwed them out of their royalties. What it shows me though, is how much damage George Martin did to them. For example, I always hated "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" until I heard the really pared down version of it with just George and the orchestra. His voice is purer on that track than any time I've ever heard. Gave me chills. And I did like all these little elements that were subtle little fills in the original works--little flourish, drum beats, bass lines, strings, or tape loops that were always in the fade out. However, as Let it Be Naked showed, the Beatles were great without Phil Spector and this shows they were great without George Martin as well.
