Saw Richard Thompson in Tampa's historic Tampa Theatre early this year. He played this song which was great! There were rumors that his ex Linda Thompson was also going to be there (unfortunately that didn't happen). Cool concert in a cool venue none the less.
Aaron Copland rules. Whenever I've heard this fanfare played live by an orchestra tears well up in my eyes. Recorded music just can't do the dynamics of this piece justice. Now how about the ELP version :)
After almost 40 years of listening to EC I am still waiting for a blues song where he plays something other than a pentatonic scale. Sorry but as a guitarist I can't say that Slowhand has ever "brought it". Clapton has a cool name and is a pretty good song smith, can write one helluva a guitar hook, but listening to him jam or noodle in the pentatonic makes me want to tear my ears off.
A pointless cover. Some covers are better than the original. Some are interesting because they take a song in a new direction. Sorry but this is so close to the original as to add nothing.
Agree, this sucks (and that is out of my character to even say that, much less think that). A cover should either be a complete reinterpretation (All along the Watchtower comes to mind) or at the very least a modernization of a classic (or forgotten) gem. I suppose it would'a been cool to hear it covered live but other than that I vote to play the Coldplay original. Coldplay may be very commercial now but I think they got to their ranking in the world for a reason. Secondly, I should say that a limited selection of an artist should inspire one to delve into the rest of her music. I've never heard of Aimee Mann but this cover (and I agree nasally rendition) is a disservice to her as an artist b/c it makes me want to avoid the rest of her music.
This song is awful. Please don't play this again. I don't complete dislike JJ, but this song is beyond grating on the ears. This song has the pleasure of getting my first ever score of 1.
Suh-weet. My favorite MAW song! Nice way to end the week. RP rocks as always. This song has my second favorite bass groove ever. First place goes to Children in Bloom by the Counting Crows (probably a contentious statement to some).
I hope their originals are better than covers. I never ever post a negative comment but I can't think of any redeeming quality that would make me want to listen to that again. I also agree with comment below, a cover should add something to the original unless it is just a bar band... (even the Rickenbacker guitar sound was lifted). Weak...
Never heard these guys. It sounds pretty cool. Dark and moody but then I've been a longtime Floyd fan so why not! This song sounded like a mutated Beck with Grant Lee Buffalo. How long have these guys been around?
I don't know about this stuff being too pop-py. Never heard so it can't be *that* pop-py. I would like to know who was playing drums on this track. If I were a betting man I would say it was Jeff Porcaro - it sounds awfully good. In any event, the drums in the track by themself making the song stand out!
Apparently it was either Rick Marotta or more likely Russ Kunkel which given his disco/funk background probably is the likely drummer in that song! I remember an article in Electronic Musician (or Mix?) a few years ago about his son Nathaniel Kunkel, now a popular producer. It's funny the more I get into music the smaller the industry seems!
