Stars All Seem to Weep - Beth Orton
Posted 23 years ago by MattB:
Nice song. My wife loves Beth Orton, so it makes me have fond thoughts of her. That's a nice thing.
As far as rap, I know what you're saying, but I like it the way it is, too. A slow, groovy, Michael Franti-style rap might be a nice bridge or finish.
But still nice as it is, IMO.
Opaline - Dishwalla

Yeah, this is good. A little darker than what I've heard from these guys before. Is this song an anomaly, or is this their new sound?
One More Murder - Better Than Ezra

I like it. It's like U2 mixed with Morcheeba.
I'm luke-warm on U2, but with this added groove, it makes it much more appealing to me. Good stuff.

More! More!
Under Pressure (w/ Queen) - David Bowie

Good song, but overplayed. Also reminds me of Vanilla Ice (yuck!).
I agree about more obscure Queen. That would really be nice.
Freddy was great!
Unbroken Chain - Grateful Dead

Yeah, Phil it up!
A great song you don't hear much. One of my favorite GD tracks. Good stuff. Thanks!

Great song, but overplayed.
Maybe it needs a little rest?
Pastime Paradise - Stevie Wonder

Great song, great artist.
I like the production of Coolio's variation, but Stevie's song is better, IMO.
If Stevie could re-do it with modern production, it could be perfect (love the fat bass sound of new hip hop/R&B).
A note about the Coolio thing: Stevie is a pretty progressive-thinking guy. I think it's cool he lets stuff like Coolio's variation happen, and he even sang this song with Coolio and a children's choir at an awards show when it was on top of the charts. Weather you like it or not, it is a kind of innovation, and that's what makes new sounds. Some innovations change the world, and I see experimentation as a good thing for music in general, even if I don't like a particular song or style.
That's my $.02.
