Los Lobos (pronounced [los ˈloβos], Spanish for "the Wolves") is a Mexican-American rock band from East Los Angeles, California. Their music is influenced by rock and roll, Tex-Mex, country, zydeco, folk, R&B, blues, brown-eyed soul, and traditional music such as cumbia, boleros and norteños. The band rose to international stardom in 1987, when their version of "La Bamba" peaked at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, and also topped the charts in the United Kingdom, and several other countries. Songs by Los Lobos have been recorded by Elvis Costello, Waylon Jennings, Frankie Yankovic, and Robert Plant. In 2015, they were nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2018, they were inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame. They are also known for performing the theme song for Handy Manny. As of 2024, they have been nominated for 12 Grammy Awards and have won 4.
As noted elsewhere, this was written by David Hidalgo of Los Lobos & was later covered (nicely) by Mr. Plant.
I'm pretty sure this was a Los Lobos song originally (from a 1990 album). Plant only covered it on his Band of Joy album some 20 years later.
yes lil Winwood on that upper note, had to look here to see who this is!
6 years on....people like myself still checking to see if this is Steve Winwood!
I think they are one of the most talented bands in the USA (AKA United States of Fear Mongering Assholes)
Not all that many angels dancing here in USFMA.
Plenty of misinformation on Google. Writers are David Hidalgo and Louis Perez of Los Lobos. This track appeared on Los Lobos' 1990 album The Neighborhood. Robert Plant covered it on his 2010 album Band of Joy and it was the lead single from the album.
About the song Plant told Mojo magazine in an interview : "Los Lobos play with such great cool, Hispanic poly-rhythms. I kept thinking this song is like a nursery rhyme but the compulsion of the rhythm seems like it could be a reflection of the way they deal with their forefathers".
As a further tribute to Los Lobos Plant featured Hidalgo and Perez in his video for the song.
LOVE LL!
Me too!
Does Los Lobos fund Bill's SuperPac?
Is the lead singer married to his sister?
Good band, good musician's, C-Minus songwriting skills.
BORING, BORING, BORING!
Listen to that ending. Nothing here that hasn't been done eight-seven million times before.....
They've been at this for 48 years and their songwriting skill are incredible as is their musicianship. There's been NO band with such a long and CONSITENT quality of output, ever. Think about it. The Stones have wallowed in mediocrity for decades. Go listen to their latest album and compare it to any others. They all hold up.

One of the most ridiculous comments I've ever seen here and I've been listening for over 15 years
yep
Are you suggesting that Los Lobos is influenced by the Subdudes? This song was originally released in 1990 after the lobos had been in existence for nearly 15 years. I realize the 'dudes had formed a few years prior to that but I hardly think they'd also managed to develop to the point that they would be influencing a veteran band in such a short time. Remember what Mark Twain once said, "Get your facts straight first, then distort them as you please." I do think the 'dudes have one of the cleverest names ever, though.
"Remember what Mark Twain once said, "Get your facts straight first, then distort them as you please."
'Nuff said, goodbuddy!
Google says way at the bottom of page one "This is the first single from Band of Joy, an album by the British rock singer Robert Plant and his band the Band of Joy. It was released on September 13, ..." and stops before saying 2010, in their short snippet from Song Facts, but if you go to the link used it says originally by Los Lobos ( in 1990) covered by Plant et al, and deeper tells you that David Hidalgo and Louie Perez of Los Lobos appear in the Plant & Band of Joy video for the single.
Also, Google Bing, and any that rely on them are getting worse and worse at finding info. Pags that contain what you are looking for either are now many pages into the search results, or not that at all anymore.
