Bruce Cockburn

Bruce Douglas Cockburn ( KOH-bərn; born May 27, 1945) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist. His song styles range from folk to folk- and jazz-influenced rock to soundscapes accompanying spoken stories. His lyrics reflect interests in spirituality, human rights, environmental issues, and relationships, and describe his experiences in Central America and Africa.

Cockburn has written more than 350 songs on 34 albums over a career spanning five decades, of which 22 have received a Canadian gold or platinum certification as of 2018, and he has sold more than one million albums in Canada alone. In 2014, Cockburn released his memoirs, Rumours of Glory.

Never heard of this guy before, but nice song to wake up to on the road. Travelling in my van for 4 months now around Europe. Part of my morning routine has been listening to Radio Paradise and discovering new songs. Thank you R.P for introducing me to many new artists and for reminding me of many that I had forgotten about.

So glad I discovered Bruce Cockburn on RP. His talent and lyricism reminds me of Warren Zevon in some ways. Great stuff.

huh, I'm finding the more recent efforts of BC to be rather enjoyable, this one I have rated at 7 for the cool, laid back feeling it gives me, I might even go to an 8 one day....hope you find something better when you PSD or skip this....Long Live RP!!

Up until about 5 or more years ago, there was a commenter here known as "physicsgenius" whose tortured reasoning for why almost every artist who was played here was crap was a constant. Has he been reincarnated in your form? Sad, as a not lamented former imposted president often commented.

saw his performance at Club Franz in Berlin in Dec 2019, had the good fortune of meeting him afterwards very briefly. I remember thinking when I shook his hand that his hands are rather large and long, probably helps with his chosen profession. Saw him a week later in Manchester at a little venue. I've seen him play in L.A., San Clemente & in Atlanta as well. If he is playing live anywhere near me I make it a point to go see hem play. Some nights are better than others and he's no spring chicken. He's one of the greats. Heard a story where Eddie Van Halen was asked what it was like being the world's best guitar player and Eddie replied: "I'm not sure, you'll have to ask Bruce Cockburn"

I have such vivid memories of seeing Bruce at Goucher College in Maryland on this tour in 1991.  Sam Phillips opened up for him, with Marc Ribot playing guitar for her (it would've been so great to have seen Mark Heard back her up on the guitar, but he had to leave the tour early due to his father's death).  It was T Bone Burnett's birthday on the night of the show, and Sam and Bruce brought him out on stage and sang to him (along with the audience).  A beautiful, brilliant moment in time.

Yes, indeed.  A point we all reach should we suffer the fortune of being blessed with a long life.  As to date has been my....affliction. 

But the saving grace, for me, is that it has allowed a realization to seep in.  We are all just aging children, rambling and gamboling along our way. 

So enjoy yourself as best you can, go on and follow your curiosity wherever it might lead.  And until  you're called home try not to grouse and complain, just be sure to play..
