I have not the faintest idea WHY, but I have two all-time-favorite LONG 'deep cuts' - this tune,
and "Goin' Home" by the Rolling Stones. Whether anyone else likes them, or HATES them
is of little to NO interest to me!
That is all...
There are so many everyday references from this song. For instance, I stopped at my neighborhood 7-11 the other day, but couldn't put air in my tires because some low-level criminal had nicked the nozzle apparatus - simply cut it off the hose! This song immediately came to mind.

I blame Barack Obama for telling us all to keep our tires fully inflated! (which I'd been doing all along anyway...)
Maybe it's because I had NO CLUE who wrote this tune that I thought it sounded like something John Prine could have written, and in my book, that is A Very Good Thing...
I think this is the first positive comment i've seen from your (STINGRAY's) side, and i couldn't agree more!
Still, I really can't be too impressed by anyone who'd rate Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" a 1...
Especially since 91% of RP's listeners rate it as a TEN!
(Yes, I know that's a logical fallacy - but this isn't a classroom, and I'm not making a defense of my thesis or anything...)
Hey! I actually LIKED Procto Harrumph's "A Wider Pail of Shite" when I was much, MUCH younger...
oops - time for my meds now...
use them on a tune whose name escapes me just now?
(and look who just showed up! *MUTE*)
The deaf man's Mellencamp, perhaps. I am confused as to how anyone could hear the noise that comes out of this guy's mouth and not wince in pain.
And this is from a guy who rates Neil Young, Tom Waits, and Bobby Zimmerman as TENS??
I like all four of these/those guys anyway - dulcet tones alone do not an artist make...
(Come to think of it, one of my all-time favorite singer/songwriters can't carry a tune in a bucket!)
Anybody wanna venture a guess as to who that might be?
(yeah, I'm old and slightly past weird, but there ya have it...)
(but I do agree that the similarity to ELO is absolutely undeniable!)
As others have said before me - it was a fun, nostalgic blast from the past.
(I'd even go so far as to say that I'd easily survive if it were played on RP once for every 'song' from my pal Ripped Rectum!)
I'll see yer

EMINENTLY listenable.
okay - the universe is back in balance now...
John Prine could have written, and in my book, that is A Very Good Thing...
7, possibly an 8 if/when I hear it again
