Oh, what is that melodious strain over the top of this ... Liberty Mutual commercial on TV? ... and there goes a great song. Now that I've heard 'Half Acre' as part of a commercial, I doubt I'll ever feel the same listening to it. *sigh*

I dunno ... I think the song styling was wrong for the new voice. Been looking around the Web for who the singer is, haven't found it. Perry with a cold? For that voice, I think an acoustical, Great Smokies versions would have worked better. Let's hear it again so I can decide. No rating yet. - quaid

mmmm .... definitely liking Over the Rhine more with the passing of time ... the affinity was there from the beginning, and it's nice to find there is some depth, too. Some things are tasty on the outside and the inside. Okay, that said, message for Bill: Can you please play a few different tunes from this album? Or another album? In fact here's a crazy idea -- take a random 10% of the songs in current rotation, and pick -another- song from the same album. It's my only, small complaint as I continue to regularly listen to RP ... the exploration I would like to hear of an album is not there. Does RP suffer from the same restrictions on the number of songs of an artist that can be played per hour per album, etc.? Even if so, I still think we could have some more alternatives to songs in rotation. thx - q

No such issue by using the Abacast plugin with Windows Media Player or QCD with the SpinAmp plugin... Both just play the stream, nothing else...
Radio Paradise and XMMS on Linux is plain dandy -- the stream snaps to life faster than any streaming audio I've heard where I wasn't on the same local network with the music source. Freedom software -- all thrills and chills.

Sometimes when I hear this song, I think of the first time I heard it. I'm a relatively late Richard Thompson fan, so hadn't heard "Beeswing" until a headline night at Strawberry Music Festival. I'm sure some of you were at Strawberry that time -- it was the time _after_ RT's "Tear Stained Letter" was sung long into the night. This time he came knowing that the Strawberry audience was perfectly made for his genius grip, and he saved "Beeswing" for the encore, sucked in everyone's romantic soul, shredded it and rewove it, and hung it up to dry in the starry sky over the Sierra with the last note of "Beeswing". Then he launched into "Tear Stained Letter". What a ham! In a good sense - I felt like my emotions were just another instrument that RT plays so well. I had to rate this a 10. - quaid

mmm ... dark mood for this morning, fits the fog hanging over Santa Cruz ... I don't mind being pulled into this grave mindset since it is so well done. - quaid, somewhere twixt the womb and the grave

It's a new music genre: High Lonesome Militia. Jokes aside, the song is kinda groovy. - Q'

Don't know if others have tried to look this up, it is a very circular route and I don't know why Amazon makes it so hard: https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000ECFV/qid%3D1054059204/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/102-6658556-6474561 The artist is "Boy On A Dolphin" and the album is "Words Inside". Appears to be out of issue. HTH, HAND.

I've been thinking about this comment, and the other comments about The Call that they are essentially sappy. What they are is Epic Music. Like Rush, U2, The Cure, Roxy Music, The Smiths, etc. It's a combination of message, lyrics, pathos, big sound, etc. This music taps into a part of us that is the same as what advertisers and movie people are trying to tap into. The sense of something larger than ourselves, and a connection, a belonging, and a longing. The '80s had quite a few bands of this ilk, but so have other eras. And you don't even have to like the stuff. But in general, I feel that most of the Epic Music Bands are a lot more pure in their motives than Madison Ave. and Hollywood. Just MHO - quaid

Traditional, which this song actually is: https://www.chivalry.com/cantaria/lyrics/marymac.html With lyrics arranged by Carbon Leaf: https://countrymonkee.org/lyrics/lyrics.html
