For what it's worth, the Wailin' Jennys do a great cover of this song. "Bringemallin" repeated over & over in their crystal-clear 3-part harmony. Very nice.
Wow. You know that spine-tingling feeling you get when you get when you hear the first chords of a meaningful song you haven't heard in several years? Yep. I've got it. Really great to hear this again.
This is a tough crowd for Smiths tunes. If I was starting fresh with Morrissey today, I'm certain I'd be leaving snarky comments here about the quality of his vocals.
But I was lucky enough to come across this album in high school. My standards were lower. I loved it then and formed a real bond with the work of Morrissey. (The Queen Is Dead is probably still in my all-time top 20 favorite album list.) I'm glad I get to hear this song through my own strongly sentimental filter. I continue to appreciate the intelligence of the lyrics and the hollow longing in Morrissey's off-kilter voice.
Nope, this is off the first album released by The Innocence Mission, back in 1989. Self-titled. Their sound has changed a lot since then -- today it sounds much more 70s-ish and much less 80s-ish! -- but worth picking up if you like the sound of this tune.
And here I was thinking I was the only one in the neighborhood who had been clued in to The Weepies! Good to hear them here. Would love to hear "All That I Want."
I just can't get enough of these guys. Her voice is so pure. And as fine as this song is -- it's just one of many wonderful songs on the Rabbit Songs CD.
If you like their sound at all, get the CD -- it will not let you down. It only gets better.
Thanks for sharing Hem with everyone, Bill!
Agreed, the original would be a most satisfying addition to the RP library...

"Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there’s a fit 'bout to get thrown..."
I agree completely!

Yes! The title track from that album is utterly scrumptious...
