Can't get this song out of my head for the past few days. This is surely one of the finest moments in musicianship in a long, long time. This song is 1995 and sounds like it could have been recorded last week. It will age preciously.
According to wikipedia (and another offline source whcih I trust to be reliable), Thom Yorke broke in tears after recording the final take. Bits like these are the stuff I use for my weekly writing... and manage to get paid for doing so, btw.
This is a 10 as far as very few 10s go.

Correct. The Americas (NB) include the USA and that other large continent separated by a man-made water course whence these grooves emanate. Wake up and smell the coffee.
The misunderstanding stems from the name America. In most western languages, aside English, America is meant to be a continent. Hence north, central and south America. From Alaska to Patagonia.
Hence the USA is the United States of America. The confusion is neither "United States" nor "America". The problem has always been the "of".
Saying that "America" belongs to everyone in the continent is grammatically correct. Canadians and Argentinians, and everyone in between are Americans, much like Greeks and Finnish are both Europeans.
The shortcoming of the English language is mistaking "America" when one means "the US". To the best of my knowledge, this was brought about by the British, not by the US, for lack of a better name.
All said, this argument to who belongs where, for economic reasons or otherwise, is pointless. And sad.

Hold the phones... There's actually a version of this that's worse? Wow!
There's one by a certain someone called Danielle Dax who appears to have gone into oblivion right after that. 1989 or thereabouts I seem to recall...
