My guess is that people rating this song highly weren't pummeled with it every 4 minutes on Top 40 radio in the 80s. Bleh. {#No}

Sade has always been a not-usually-my-type favorite.  I quite like her stuff...smooth....{#Sunny}

Excellent tune - Excellent album! Their best IMHO....

Yep, and their show for this album tour at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago was right around the time of my birthday, and my best friend at the time bought us tickets and thankfully dragged me away from studying for grad school finals to go to the show—was great.

I'm gonna buck the comment trend by saying I think this song isn't bad...not awesome, but quite ok...it has a slight Sisters of Mercy flavor, to me... I really don't love a lot of Moby's stuff, but I definitely appreciate his willingness to try different stuff, expand his range, etc. He's creative, even if not everyone's taste, including my own sometimes...

With respect to the Billy Joel conversation:

Here is one of the things I love most about RP: No. Fucking. Billy. Joel.

Amen!  Billy Joel sucks.  This song is pretty dull, IMO. {#Rolleyes}

I never know how to rate Joni's songs because I'll vacillate anywhere between 4-8 several times, depending on what's happening in the tune. Her lyrics are usually quite engaging though...and although she's not my favorite, I feel quite an appreciation for her contribution...

I always hear that double negative and think that they do need an education.

Ah, but does the double negative truly not exist in English, or is it just cleverly hidden? {#Ask} The use of "any" in a declarative statement does indeed form a type of double negative because it cannot be used in the affirmative.

Example: "We don't need any education."  Correct. "We need any education." Incorrect. "Any" plays the same grammatical role as "no" in the double negative. Nearly all other quantifiers (e.g., some, much/many, little/few, etc.) can be used in both the affirmative and negative.

All of that said, my answer may be the very type of thing Roger and the guys were complaining about in this song since I'm a teacher {#Cheesygrin}

I dig these guys. They have kind of a quirky rhythm to their tunes.

Yep.  I see how others might not like his voice, but I kinda do—I might not like it for long though, but mixed in with a good set on RP, I can handle it for sure...

I got a free ticket to the Pretenders (opening act, Iggy Pop) in 1986—awesome.

Are there still diners and dive places that give free refills in Seattle? I lived there in the mid 90s, and nearly all of the places I used to go are no longer there or have been mega-gentrified. Still a good city for sure...but different than the one I lived in back then.

I agree, but like with Beth Orton, I think NM is good for 2-3 songs in a sitting, but then I find myself losing interest...but I enjoyed the 2-3 songs.

The lyrics are beautiful (as they are to most of her songs before and after the 10K Maniacs), but her voice has that Beth Orton quality that drives me buggy. Something about the tone rubs me the wrong way.
