Yes, heaven forbid that three of the most prolific and talented singer/songwriters in history get out and sing songs that they wrote, in defiance of your rules.

Precisely my three favourite singers. I love the fact that they sound like they just rolled out of bed with a hangover and are groping around for a half-smoked cigarette butt while they try to remember how they wound up in that cheesy motel room. Especially Tom Waits. But aren't there any women to add to the list of great bad singers? Or do we just have a much healthier lifestyle?

Winnipeg! Who knew it would be such a font of great music.

A friend "gave" me this song on a mixed tape, just to give an idea how long ago that was. Haunting. It immediately brought me back to that time.

Up to here with breathy female voices. Didn't work for me with the Cowboy Junkies, does not work for me now.

Oh perfect... the sound of the ocean and this song, can't think of a better combination.

A groovy version of the son cubano that first spoke of salsa in musical terms.

This has put me in the mood for some Broken Social Scene. How 'bout it?

Though I do try to buy Canadian whenever possible, I have never been a fan of Cowboy Junkies. That wispy breathy voice gets on my nerves.

Oh man, listen to El Tri's "Triste canción de amor" (actually composed by La Renga, I believe)... same tune! Then the Tri goes on to copy the lyric: you are just a dreamer, I am just a dream... in their song Pobre soñador, only reversed: "Tu eres como un sueño, y yo tan solo soy un pobre soñador" (You are like a dream, and I'm just a poor dreamer).
I have always liked El Tri, but have just lost a little respect for them. Plagiarists!

Yay! I bought this as an LP in high school, and I still like it.

I'm sorry, that's a sucko-barfo for me. I don't know that it's an age thing, because I listen to music from all different eras—-Beethoven was maybe the first rock star in Western music!—-but it is really jangling my nerves.
