Henry Mancini ( man-SEE-nee; born Enrico Nicola Mancini; April 16, 1924 – June 14, 1994) was an American composer, conductor, arranger, pianist and flutist. Often cited as one of the greatest composers in the history of film, he won four Academy Awards, a Golden Globe, and twenty Grammy Awards, plus a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995.
His works include the theme and soundtrack for the Peter Gunn television series as well as the music for The Pink Panther film series ("The Pink Panther Theme") and "Moon River" from Breakfast at Tiffany's. The Music from Peter Gunn won the inaugural Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Mancini enjoyed a long collaboration in composing film scores for the film director Blake Edwards. Mancini also scored a No. 1 hit single during the rock era on the Hot 100: his arrangement and recording of the "Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet" spent two weeks at the top, starting with the week ending June 28, 1969.
Heavy mode on:
At that time my father was a well driller and we didn't have a great deal, holes in the drywall and ragged ass furniture. But my childhood was a kick in the pants. Lots of kids on the street and they were all fun. Child hood and high school all fun. Like many people here the songs transport you back.
I get all choked up when I think about kids in wore torn places who fear for their lives on a daily bases or kids anywhere who endure unhappiness during there youth.

Probably because it's an iconic tune.
I was in the rear rank and could see shoulders twitching as soldiers were trying not to laugh.
Yeah but the cartoons were....?
It is unquestionably good in my opinion. In fact I would say it is genius and this is sometimes lost in its over-familiarity.
Really? The Peter Sellers 'Pink Panther' movies were mostly great to me, and then Dr. Strangelove....well that was his best work to me....Long Live RP and NOT loving the bomb!!
A long way from Pink Panther, but I think "Being There" was his best performance and one of my favorite movies of all time. Strangelove is also a favorite, but I think "Being There" just got out there a bit more. A more subtle and cerebral satire on life.

Inspired, and I am not sure why - both are masterpieces.
That one single piano note at the start is enough to know exactly what is coming next. Classic
Right on!
yep.
What a funny movie and the theme song was perfect. A reminder of how good Mancini s music was and still resonates today.
So, is it the familiarity that people score this so high or is it actually a good piece of music? Hmmmmm.
Why not both?
