This is a great song, people, but you're hearing it out of context! It's the last song of a "concept", which is the entire second disc. The guitarist is Danny McIntosh, her partner, father of her son, and guitarist on the entire album.
If you listen to the entire disk in the order in which is was intended, this is the glorious crescendo, the day breaking after the long, romantic night, communion with the birds and the sun....it literally sent shivers up my spine when I first heard it.
Laying in bed tonight I was thinking And listening to all the dogs And the sirens and the shots And how the careful man tries to dodge the bullets While a happy man takes a walk And maybe it's time to live.
Just one of all of the fantastic songs on Aerial. This should be her next single, but she has intimated that none of the songs on the second disc "A Sky Of Honey" will be released as singles. A shame only because this is probably the only obvious "single" on the album other than King of the Mountain.
Buy this disc if you haven't already, you won't regret it!
I haven't heard this one before - had to check to see which album it was from. Kinda surprised it's "Supernatural" since it's about 1000 times better than every other song I've heard off that album.
Santana has some killer guitar tone here, and he's one of those guitarists (as opposed to someone like Keith Richards) who actually gets better the more he plays. Same licks as always? Maybe, but they sure as hell are executed a lot better and are used in the right places now. Just listen to his debut album, then something like this - it shows his growth as a musician and guitarist. Sweet stuff.
That's very well put . I've got this double CD myself and would agree with your sentiments. This song is just a lovely celebration of, well, loveliness, and you can really hear the feeling in her voice. Saying that, there are a couple of clunkers on the album, such as the washing machine song and the execrable number featuring Rolf Harris (yes, really), but skip past them and you've got a quiet, unassuming gem.
The "washing machine" song you refer to is "Mrs Bartolozzi", and IMHO is one of the two best songs on the first disc (the other being "A Coral Room"). I'm not sure why so many people and reviewers focus on the "washing machine" refrain and completely ignore the brilliance of the rest of the lyrics - it's an incredibly moving and powerful song.

Love this song, love Eels.
