the first time i heard this song, i really didn't like it. but now that it's grown on me a bit, i can't help but jam out to it. fun!
also, i just learned yesterday that Elvis is married to Diana Krall. i had to read it three times to be sure i had it right. O_o but now that i've had a couple of days to digest that, it seems so perfect.
OMG THANK YOU for playing Erin's music on RP. She is from my area, in Tennessee, and I heard her live a couple of years ago here in Chattanooga. She was such a sweet presence on stage, just a guitar and a mic, and told as many stories as she sang songs. I'm proud of her for getting around, to places like paradise, CA. This is just great, thanks RP.
so glad to hear BoH on this site. but i don't get to hear my favorite song here... "no one's gonna love you". so pretty. wish RP would add that one to the playlist.
just listened to this album again on a road trip... it's one of those perfect albums, imho. not a dud in the whole set. i love singing along. this will be a record my kids will enjoy, as one of Mom's old records that they share with their friends. at least that's how i see it. so clever and self-deprecating, and musically sound too. love it.
it's hard for youngsters like me to keep in perspective how much this guy changed the world. too bad about the rhinestones and fried boloney sandwiches, though.
up till now i have hated virtually everything that Snow Patrol did. i thought it was just more cheesy, mass-produced pop, and what's more, there was rhythmic weirdness and poetic naivete i never could get past.
this album, however, seems to say they've grown up and gotten some chops. i like it very much so far and it is changing my mind about this band. they haven't ascended to pantheon status or anything, but they're listenable and even enjoyable now.
okay, i really like this song. but it does sound like he's saying "disco, disco, partly sunny". i was like, is this called the Weather Dance or something? XD
This time, it is very bad. This song is horrible, even for Wilco.
i really like the song... but it's just that one off-pitch note that feels like nails on a chalkboard to me. was the producer taking a bio break when that note happened? believe me, tweedy, i feel it... but not in a good way. :(
Me too... Johnny Ryall!! Would love to hear that next.
is this too long of a post for me to make?
Johnny Ryall is the bum on my stoop I gave him fifty cents to buy some soup He knows the time with the fresh Gucci watch He's even more over than the mayor Ed Koch Washing windows on the Bowery at a quarter to four 'Cause he ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more Living on borrowed time and borrowed money Sleepin' on the street there ain't a damn thing funny Hand me down food and hand me down clothes A rockabilly past of which nobody knows Makes his home all over the place He goes to sleep by falling down on his face Sometimes known as the leader of the homeless Sometimes drunk and he's always phoneless Sleepin' on the street in a cardboard box He's better off drinkin' than smokin' the rocks Johnny Ryall, Johnny Ryall
He drinks where he lies He's covered with flies He's got the hand me down Pumas and the tie dyes Go upstate and get your head together Thunderbird is the word and you're light as a feather Detox at the flop house no booze allowed Remember the good old days with the rockabilly crowd Memphis is where he's from He lives in the street but he's no bum A rockabilly star from the days of old He used to have teeth all filled with gold A platinum voice but only gold records On the bass was boots on the drums was checkers Luis Vuitton with the Gucci guitar Johnny Ryall Who do you think you are Johnny Ryall, Johnny Ryall
Donald Trump Donald Tramp living in the Men's Shelter Wonder Bread bag shoes and singing Helter Skelter He asks for a dollar you know what it's for Bottle after bottle he'll always need more He's no less important than you working class stiffs Drinks a lot of liquor but he don't drink piss Paid his dues playing the blues He claims that he wrote the Blue Suede Shoes Elvis shaved his head when he went into the army That's right y'all his name is Johnny Johnny Ryall, Johnny Ryall
the first day the DL was available for this album, i DLed it and then mistakenly played this song first, having the song order completely backwards. i thought, wow, what a weird song to open with. this ought to be a closing song. then i realized my mistake. DOH! XD
just a lovely song.
i agree with an above poster though, i wish i could hear "15 steps" on this station.

Johnny Ryall is the bum on my stoop
I gave him fifty cents to buy some soup
He knows the time with the fresh Gucci watch
He's even more over than the mayor Ed Koch
Washing windows on the Bowery at a quarter to four
'Cause he ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more
Living on borrowed time and borrowed money
Sleepin' on the street there ain't a damn thing funny
Hand me down food and hand me down clothes
A rockabilly past of which nobody knows
Makes his home all over the place
He goes to sleep by falling down on his face
Sometimes known as the leader of the homeless
Sometimes drunk and he's always phoneless
Sleepin' on the street in a cardboard box
He's better off drinkin' than smokin' the rocks
Johnny Ryall, Johnny Ryall
He drinks where he lies
He's covered with flies
He's got the hand me down Pumas and the tie dyes
Go upstate and get your head together
Thunderbird is the word and you're light as a feather
Detox at the flop house no booze allowed
Remember the good old days with the rockabilly crowd
Memphis is where he's from
He lives in the street but he's no bum
A rockabilly star from the days of old
He used to have teeth all filled with gold
A platinum voice but only gold records
On the bass was boots on the drums was checkers
Luis Vuitton with the Gucci guitar
Johnny Ryall
Who do you think you are
Johnny Ryall, Johnny Ryall
Donald Trump Donald Tramp living in the Men's Shelter
Wonder Bread bag shoes and singing Helter Skelter
He asks for a dollar you know what it's for
Bottle after bottle he'll always need more
He's no less important than you working class stiffs
Drinks a lot of liquor but he don't drink piss
Paid his dues playing the blues
He claims that he wrote the Blue Suede Shoes
Elvis shaved his head when he went into the army
That's right y'all his name is
Johnny
Johnny Ryall, Johnny Ryall
just couldn't resist...
just a lovely song.
